Minute Approval / Mr. Roberts motioned to approve the minutes and Mr. McDiffett seconded. Motion was passed with a voice vote.
Kirk Harris / Subcommittee / Mr. Harris reported on the committees continued work on the instrutors rules which is adding the AEMT and clarifying some language. After all the adjustments they will bring it before the Committee as soon as complete.
Donna Tidwell / NREMT Report / NREMT report for the 1st quarter 2015 and 4th quarter 2014 was reviewed.. Mrs. Tidwell is working with National Registry (NR) to see if she can obtain a detailed report that that will include completion date within the fiscal year and who have attempted and passed within the first six months of course completion. It will be up to them to get the students in to take there test, if they do not have at least ten (10) students it will not even register them, they will show that they have had none pass. Mrs. Tidwell presented the TN NREMT status report for 2014. The report indicated from the course completion to the ATT letter was issued is average of six (6) days, the time frame of taking the exam is twenty-three (23) days. Mrs. Tidwell stated there are sixteen (16) test sites, seven (7) are Pearson Vue Centers and nine (9) are test centers in Community Colleges. Mrs. Tidwell stated students need to strongly encourage students to take the first available date and if schools have sites they should attempt to get them in to test as a group. Mrs. Tidwell reminded them the test sites are not like a test center, a test center is open 24/7 and a test site has limited hours. Mrs. Tidwell stated that one thing the paramedic program should be aware CO-A standards, now require Programs make public the pass rates and placement rates for the paramedic program.
It was announced two programs that are going before the Board for initial AEMT program approval and one that will go for their final paramedic program approval.
Mrs. Tidwell stated that Dr. Smith will be looking at all the Committee and making sure they have the right structure and may be making some reappointments.
The Education Conference will be in July and the portfolios for the students are very important. Dave Page will providing education on how to prepare a portfolio. Paramedic Porgrams will have to have Portfolios on 2016 graduates for NREMT testing. However all instructors are urged to attend as AEMT and EMT will follow Paramedic. NREMT will be also presenting the new Paramedic testing and will be talking about the new portfolio. Mrs. Tidwell suggested that they start the student’s portfolio when they are in EMT school.
It was also announced in August the NAEMSE will be having a conference at the Omni.
Questions / Mr. Roberts asked about the regulation that was posted in August, the admission requirement for paramedic school. Mr. Roberts asked if the approved testing is the NRAEMT assessment exam. Mrs. Tidwell stated it was, but the committee could make a recommendation to the board for other valid and reliable comprehensive exams and if they wished.
Mr. Aukerman motioned to pilot FISDAP and Platinum exams and Mr. McBurnett second. Mr. Pittman amended the motion to make it a three (3) year pilot testing and Ms. Rivera seconded. Amendment passed with a voice vote. Motion passed with a voice vote. If the Board approves the pilot, it will go into effect and can start in the fall.
Mrs. Tidwell stated that the EMT does not have to have the moral character letters. Mrs. Tidwell went over what they are to do with the students who are going from EMT to AEMT, or the ones who decide that they want to be licensed as an EMT before they go to the AEMT.
