IV.COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is a study of early child development and explores the elements of quality in group care that support strong relationships and positive learning experiences. Responsive and reflective practice in a developmentally appropriate program is emphasized. Ohio’s Early Learning and Development Standards will also be presented. The student will observe a total of 4 hours in an approved infant/toddler program.

The grading scale is according to the SSCC handbook:
90 - 100 =A
80 - 89 =B
70 - 79=C
60 - 69=D

Student will be required to complete written exams at times designated in the Course Schedule. Students are required to participate in all class activities.

XII.SPECIFIC MANAGEMENT REQUIREMENTS:
1) Attendance is essential for academic success; however, if you must miss a class due to illness or an emergency, please contact the instructor (393-3431, ext. 2628 or by email). If a student misses 20% of the classes, the instructor can officially withdraw the student from the course.
2) Read assigned material. Participate in class discussions and class activities.
3) Four hours of observation in an APPROVED infant/toddler setting is required. A maximum of ten extra credit points can be earned upon successful completion of the observation process and documentation. Observations are to be recorded on forms provided by instructor. All observations must be typed with the blue form stapled to the observation notes. Signature of cooperating teacher is required. All forms are due during Week#12. NO extra credit will be awarded to LATE forms. For each day the observation form is late, two points willbe deducted from the student's final average.
4) Tutoring (no charge) is available to ALL students. Please contact the instructor if you need additional help with your course work and/or test preparation. Do not wait until the end of the semester!
5) All cell phones must be turned off during class time. Disruptions will not be tolerated.
XIII.OTHER INFORMATION:
FERPA: Students need to understand that your work may be seen by others during project work, demonstrations, class presentations, group assignments, etc.. Students also need to know that there is a strong possibility that your work may be submitted to other entities for the purpose of plagiarism checks.
