Protecting our environment

Of the many things we at PBL can do at work to protect the environment possibly the most critical is to keep the oil in the container.

  • Make sure you understand your task when doing your job.
  • Verify your orders with the proper people.
  • Make sure all parties involved understand the plan.
  • When a change or question arises, STOP the job and sort it out.
  • NEVER assume…KNOW.

Our environment is our responsibility. Treat it with respect. Keep the oil in the container.

Summer has arrived…so watch the HEAT.

Three simple words…

HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE

Crew News…

Robert Bond, the Captain on the M/V Freedom, is at home resting. He says he is always tired and spends his days resting. His stem cell harvesting is about a week from beginning. Robert said this has been real difficult to keep focused on getting well because the journey has been very difficult.

Charlotte Falgout, our business office manager, is beginning to see an end to her chemo. She is doing great and is at work a few days each week barking out directives to those who will listen. Please feel free to call her (504-349-8078) and visit when you feel the urge.

PLEASE KEEP ALL OF THESE INDIVIDUALS AS WELL AS THEIR FAMILIES IN YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.

TerryBoffone’s son Trevor has just completed his class work at the

University of Houston where he maintained a 4.0 GPA in the Hispanic Studies,PHD program. He now can use the letters ABD (All But Dissertation) after his name. All he has remaining is to write and present his dissertation. Trevor estimates it will take 2 years longer to research, write and present his dissertation. In the meantime he is doing research while instructing Spanish at the University of Houston.

Dwayne Arceneaux’s daughter Amy has completed her second year at Nichols State University. Amy is the proud owner of a 2.3 accumulative GPA. Dwayne is one of our Port Engineers.

Joe Roddy’s son Dylan has just completed his first year of studies at the University of Louisiana Lafayette. Dylan is the proud owner of a 3.2 accumulative GPA. Joe is one of our Operations Specialist.

Joe Roddy’sdaughter Lauren has just completed her second year of nursing school at TheUniversity of Louisiana Lafayette. Lauren has 1 year of nursing school left to complete. She had a 2.1 GPA last semester. Dylan finally had bragging rights. Joe is one of our Operations Specialist.

Captain Greg Gunther’s son Bryton has just completed his first year at Loyola University New Orleans. Bryton is an up and coming opera tenor majoring in vocal performance. Greg, the Captain on the M/V Uncle Sam insist that Bryton gets his vocal ability from him. OK, Greg, if you say so. As a side bar, Bryton was recently cast in Mozarts “Magical Flute”. Look for him to be in more productions in the future as he has a promising future in the opera scene.

Progressive Barge Line, Inc.is very proud of these college students and wish them continued success in their future studies.

Please surround our friend Cyndi Pfeifer and her family in your thoughts and prayers at this time because of the loss of her mother last week.

“Real leaders are ordinary people with extraordinary determination.”

“Don’t measure yourself by what you have accomplished, but by what you should have accomplished with your ability.”

“Failure is not the worst thing in the world. The very worst is not to try.”

“Today’s preparation determines tomorrow’s achievement.”

Charting the Course for Others

Lead good people down a wrong path and you’ll come to a bad end; do good and you’ll be rewarded for it. --Proverbs 28:10

Leaders who navigate do even more than control the direction in which they and their people travel. They see the whole trip in their minds before they leave the dock. They have a vision for their destination, theyunderstand what it will take to get there, they know who they’ll need on the team to be successful, and they recognize the obstacles long before they appear on the horizon.

First-rate navigators always have in mind that other people are depending in them and their ability to chart a good course, and the secret to successful navigation is preparation. When you prepare well, you convey confidence and trust to the people. You see, it’s not the size of the project that determines its acceptance, support, and success—it’s the size of the leader. Leaders who are good navigators are capable of taking their people to just about anywhere.

--The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership

“It takes courage and vision to push yourself to places that you have never been before…to test your limits…to break through barriers.”

Out of struggle comes strength of character.

Successful people are self-starters. They are internally motivated and work hard even if no one is looking over their shoulder.

Effective managers know how to delegate. Pick trustworthy people, and let them do their job.

“We must never be afraid to go too far, for success lies just beyond.”

--Marcel Proust

“Know the true value of time; snatch, size, and enjoy every moment of it. No idleness, no delay, no procrastination; never put off till tomorrow what you can do today.” --Earl of Chesterfield

OPTIMIST:

…someone who isn’t sure weather life is a tragedy or a comedy but is tickled silly just to be in the play. --Robert Brault
