POST:NURSERY PRACTITIONER

RESPONSIBLE TO:NURSERY OPERATIONS MANAGER

PURPOSE OF POST:To assist with the co-ordination, development and delivery of a quality childcare provision.

MAJOR TASKS/JOB ACTIVITIES

Managing People

  • To work as a member of the Nursery Team and establish good and effective relationships with the children, staff and parents.
  • To be responsive and adaptable to the needs of the children.
  • To act as a keyworker for a group of individual children and families.
  • To contribute to the support of volunteers and students.

Managing Resources

  • To create a stimulating and attractive environment for all children.
  • To ensure the provision of a high quality environment to meet the needs of individual children from differing cultures and religious backgrounds and stages of development.
  • To implement health and safety standards, ensuring that the playroom and equipment are kept in good order and repair.
  • To organise and supervise age appropriate activities to encourage the emotional, social, physical, creative and intellectual development of the children.

Managing Information

  • To have a sound knowledge of child development 0-5 years and be able to respond to the differing needs of individual children.
  • To ensure observations, assessments, reporting and recording procedures are carried out.
  • To maintain records on each child using:
  • Children’s profilesSummative reportsTransition records
  • To report to parent’s on the children’s progress
  • To participate in the SDPR process
  • To adhere to all Nursery Policies and Procedures, including attendance at staff meetings

Managing Finance

●To be involved in the purchasing, utilising and maintaining appropriate resources associated with the delivery of the curriculum.

Planning

  • To plan children’s activities based on a child-centred approach and working within the early Years Curriculum framework.
  • To contribute to and to implement the Educational Development Plan
  • To undertake short and long term Educational planning of Child Development activities.

Managing Operations

●To be aware of and work within the standards and requirements of the Care Commission, HMIE and the local Education Department.

●To prepare and supervise snack time/lunch times as required.

●To attend to the immediate/basic needs of children when injured/sick, maintain first aid/medical equipment and records

●To undertake hygiene duties for babies and children including toileting, changing nappies and clothing and clean up children who have been sick

  • HNC or SVQ level 3 or equivalent in Childcare and Education
  • Applicants must be registered with the Scottish Childcare and Education Board
