EDGEWOOD FARMER’S MARKET

The Edgewood Farmer’s Market is a member of the New Mexico Farmer’s Marketing Association, and as such supports the Association’s definition of a farmer’s market:

“A public market place where fresh foods from a defined local area are sold by the people who have grown, gathered, raised or caught them.”

2013 Market Rules and Regulations

  1. Vendors will be charged $40.00 per space for the season, which is every Thursday from June22nd to October 12thfrom 8:30 p.m. to Noon. The fees will be prorated as the season comes to a close and will be decided by the Market Manager. If you attend any planning meeting held before June22ndor help in the construction of the booths vendors will receive a $15.00 discount. It is Your Responsibility to pay the market manager before leaving for the day. Failure to do so will result in suspension of your vending privileges.
  1. Vendors using tents or canopies must stake or weight them down in the interest of public safety.There will be no reserved spaces other than the following: There will be an area blocked off for trailers and larger vehicles. Also the EBT machine will be a booth set up by the power outlet.
  1. Vendors will display a clearly visible sign bearing their farm or business name, location, products available, and pricing of their products as well as the sign for vendors that are authorized to take WIC or Senior WIC checks.
  1. Growers are only allowed to sell fresh fruits, vegetables and farm products raised by them in the state of New Mexico. The market manager must approve any exceptions prior to the market. With prior approval you will be allowed to resell homegrown produce from another individual that will enhance the variety of products available at the market. This product still must be produced in New Mexico.
  1. Vendors selling processed foods must give the market manager copies of your current food-processing license and product liability insurance (minimum $1 million coverage). (See Manager for details.)
  1. Vendors selling nursery stock, cut flowers, meat, dairy or eggs must give the market manager copies of the appropriate inspection certificate, permits, product liability insurance, dealer license, and/or slaughter license. Live animals at the market must be pre-approved. (See Manager for details.)
  1. Those interested in an umbrella license for nursery stock can see the manager for sign up sheet. There is an additional $10.00 fee to help cover the costs of the umbrella license.
  1. Local craft vendors will be allowed a space as long as the ratio of farmers to crafters is at a minimum of 4 to 1. The vendor must produce all crafts. No reselling or commercial products are allowed. Farmers selling their own craft products will be counted as farmers rather than crafters for the purposes of determining the 4 to 1 ratio. The market manager must approve all crafts offered for sale at the market. Items of questionable taste or legality will not be allowed.
  1. The Edgewood Farmers’ Market will not tolerate “dumping” or flagrant undercutting of prices. The market manager will enforce minimum price levels. Minimum price levels will be determined by a majority vote of the vendors present at any given market or market meeting. Pricing will the same as last year’s pricing, however if new products that have not been priced show up then pricing will be voted on at the market. The votes will be gathered by the Market Manager and tallied and pricing will remain in effect though out the rest of the season. Pricing may be changed by the vendors with a majority of vendors present at the market voting on the new pricing. The manager will notify the vendor that is under pricing items of the current set price. Those products affected must be re-priced immediately. Failure to do so will result in suspension of your vending privileges for the remainder of the season. There will be no refund of the seasonal fee.
  1. The market allows children under the age of 18 a free space to sell produce that they have grown themselves. Parents are allowed to provide the basic garden inputs: space, seed, water, fertilizer, gardening tools, etc. Planting, weeding, watering, fertilizing, harvesting, and selling of the items grown must be the responsibility of the child applying for a free space. All other market rules apply to children that are vendors.
  1. The premises of the market will be kept clean and free of litter. You are responsible for cleaning your own space.
