EDCO Marketing Communications Manager
About the Job
EDCO seeks a Marketing Communications Manager to develop and manage content for its websites, enhance the value of generated content via blogging and other social media, and work with media on both an in- bound and outbound basis. The Marketing Communications Manager is critical in establishing the voice of EDCO for diverse audiences (including business owners, entrepreneurs, community leaders and local residents) and for diverse motivations. Additionally, the position assists with outbound marketing and recruitment efforts designed to attract employers from outside the tri-county region.
The key website, www.edcoinfo.com, is primarily a persuasive website to attract new companies, advertise upcoming events and seminars and serves as EDCO’s primary information center to provide frequently requested data about the Central Oregon economy. This site will be maintained continuously internally both by the Marketing Communications Manager and by other EDCO staff. A secondary site relating to the Bend Venture Conference, www.bendvc.com, requires seasonal maintenance relating to the event.
Skills and Experience Needed
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
• Good narrative instincts and the ability to spot and construct stories (best-in-class storytelling)
• Print, social media, website, email content development and maintenance experience
• Proven ability to carry a voice and brand persona across an organization/company
• Strong editing skills of contributed content
• Leadership skills and ability to work independently and on deadline
• Design experience is essential, along with proficiency with photo editing tools
• Media relations development and experience pitching story ideas
• Understanding of SEO-driven content creation and a firm grasp of keyword analytics
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with a high degree of professionalism
• Passion and energy to move large, complex projects forward on a timely basis in a collaborative environment
Other Professional Requirements
• Undergraduate degree, preferably in marketing, communications, business, and/or journalism
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications, photo editing tools, and design platforms
• 7 to 10 years developing and publishing content, with 1 to 3 years in the online arena, specifically social media. Key social platforms are LinkedIn and Twitter.
• Basic (troubleshooting) knowledge of HTML, experience with other platforms preferred
Key Responsibilities
• Gather information from a variety of sources to tell stories in a clear, cohesive, and concise way
• Create original content for press releases and digital publishing
• Work with company, government, education and other organization’s communications experts
• Manage content creation and updates across the websites and for social communities
• Strong research skills to assist with all aspects of communication (ability to translate data into infographics preferred)
• Edit content from other sources to leverage for digital publishing
• Develop and maintain content via social media platforms driving participation and engagement
• Plan, manage, and execute editorial calendar to drive communications
• Measure content effectiveness via web metrics
• Establish and maintain content consistency, adhering to style guidelines, branding persona, and articulated voice
• Serve as gatekeeper to ensure that standards are met prior to content publication
• Assist Executive Director with business recruitment projects as needed
• Photography and/or video production experience a plus
• Gain industry knowledge and develop a network of contacts to facilitate original content creation and capturing of industry opinion to engage existing and potential customers
