Below are only some of the scholarships that are available for the 2015-16 school year. More will be added as they arrive to Wheaton HS. Please research the other websites listed below. There are many, many scholarships available!

Scholarships are monetary gifts that can be used to pay for college. Students do not have to repay scholarship money. Remember that no legitimate competitive scholarship will ever require information like a credit card number, a bank account number, or any kind of upfront fee. No legitimate scholarship website can guarantee that a student will receive a scholarship.

Scholarship: The Gates Millennium Scholarship

Deadline: January 13, 2016

Additional Information: The GMS 2016 Application will open on August 1, 2015. To be eligible for the Gates Millennium Scholars Program students must:

  • Be African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian American/Pacific Islander or Hispanic American;
  • Be Citizens, legal permanent residents or nationals of the United States;
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on an unweighted 4.0 scale or earned a GED;
  • Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities;
  • Meet Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria;
  • Enroll for the first time at a U.S. located , accredited college or university (with the exception of students concurrently pursuing a high school diploma) in the fall as a full-time, degree seeking, first year student;
  • Have completed and submitted their application by the deadline; and
  • Have the following forms completed and submitted by the deadline on their behalf:
  1. A Nominator Form-an evaluation of the student's academic record, and;
  2. A Recommender Form- an evaluation of the student's community service and leadership activities

Scholarship: Microsoft STEM Scholarship

Deadline: January 31, 2016

Microsoft STEM Scholarship is offered to students who pursue studies in Computer Science and related STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields. The scholarship is for under-represented students.
Under-represented students includes women, minority students (African-American, Hispanic or Native American etc.) or students with disabilities. Applicants must have a 3.0 or higher GPA and must be enrolled in a four-year college or university full-time. They must be pursuing an undergraduate degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical discipline such as electrical engineering, math, or physics.

Applicants will be chosen based on academic achievement, leadership qualities, passion for STEM fields, and financial need. The scholarship is offered to encourage underrepresented groups to pursue STEM fields of study. The annual scholarship covers partial or full tuition costs.

Scholarship: I Empower Scholarship

Deadline: February 1, 2016

In order to be eligible to receive a Thursday Network I EMPOWER Scholarship, one must:

● Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 based on a 4.0 scale;

● Plan to attend a four-year college or university in the fall of 2016;

● Demonstrate a commitment to community service;

● Demonstrate a financial need;

● Be a minority of African, Hispanic, and/or Latino descent;

● Be a U.S. Citizen;

● Be a permanent resident and/or attend high school in the District of Columbia, Montgomery County (MD), or Prince George’s County (MD); and

● Complete and supply a copy of all application materials postmarked no later than February 1, 2016

Scholarship: Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Scholarship

Deadline: February 13, 2016

The Scholarship Program currently has the following types of scholarships, which are explained below:

1. County-Wide Scholarship

The County-Wide Scholarship was established to provide financial awards for high school students who have excelled in their academics.

2. MCAC Educational Program Scholarship

The Montgomery County (Maryland) Alumnae Chapter (MCAC) Educational Program Scholarship was established to provide financial awards to high school students who have participated in the MCAC Educational Program for a minimum of two consecutive years.

3. Career/Vocational/Technical Scholarship

The Vocational/Training Scholarship was established to provide financial awards to students who want to advance their education/skill set by participating in a career/vocational/technical program. These programs are traditionally described as those that focus on specific vocational skills needed within certain occupations.

Ivy Vine Charities, Incorporated is pleased to announce that it is now accepting applications for its 2016 scholarship award.

Selection Criteria

The applicant must:

Be a senior attending an accredited high school in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area

Have an unweighted, cumulative grade point average of 2.7 or above on a 4.0 scale documentedon an official transcript

Scholarship: WRTC Scholarship

Deadline: March 23, 2016

Washington Regional Transplant Community (WRTC) is pleased to announce two scholarships available to your high school seniors: Leslie Ebert Legacy of Life Essay and Leslie Ebert Legacy of Life Video. Applicable students can apply for both scholarships. We are excited to announce that two of the ten scholarships will be $5,000 scholarships.

The Leslie Ebert Memorial Fund will award one $5,000 first place, one $3,000 second place, and three $1,000 honorable mentions for both scholarships.

1) Lives within the Greater Washington DC Metropolitan area (VA, DC, MD)

Scholarship: BigSun Scholarship

The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. We are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in.
