Dear Parents:

It is now the of time year for cheerleading tryouts to select the squads for the next school term. We will be selecting members for a Competition Team and a Football Game Team. Selections for the Basketball Game Team will be held next fall. Being an EMS cheerleader carries a huge responsibility. Girls are expected to attend every practice, every game/competition, and fundraising event, as well as maintain their grades and meet all financial obligations.

We will be holding tryouts the week of April 25, 2016. We will evaluate tumbling skills only on Monday, April 25, until 5:30pm. This session is only for those girls with advanced tumbling skills (back handspring without a spot). We will evaluate those with basic tumbling skills (cartwheels and round offs) during the other sessions. All girls trying out need to attend the sessions on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 through Thursday, April 28, 2016. All practices will end at 5:30pm. All tryouts sessions are mandatory. Tryouts will also be closed – no parents or other spectators. All interested girls must submit their applications and parental permissions forms no later than 3:00 pm on Friday, April 22, 2016.

We will be checking each girl’s grades. Girls must be passing no less than three academic subjects for the first semester of 2015 – 2016 in order to participate in tryouts. To cheer next year, they must be passing no less than three academic subjects for the second semester of 2015 – 2016. In addition to grades, students must have an outstanding behavior record with no major offenses documented by their discipline tracker. Team teachers will fill out evaluation forms, which rank dependability, leadership, attitude, cooperation, courtesy, and character. This will become a component of their actual tryout judging form. In order to attend any aspect of tryouts, girls must have an up-to-date physical form on file with the Athletic Director.

Sixteen girls will be selected for the Competition Team. A back-handspring without a spot, at a minimum, is required to make this team.

Being a EMS cheerleader also carries a large financial obligation for the parents. Below is a list on require items and the costs that each cheerleaders must pay. You may pay at once or on a monthly based on the schedule below. Please contact the coach if there is a hardship in paying these fees.

To Parents:

I have read this letter and I understand it.

I understand that qualified coaches will evaluate my daughter, and we agree to abide by the decision of the coaches.

I understand by the very nature if the activity, cheerleading and gymnastics carry a risk of physical injury. No matter how careful the participant and coach are, how many spotters are used, or what landing surface is used, the risk cannot be eliminated. The risk of injury includes minor injuries such as muscle pulls, dislocation and broken bones. The risk also includes catastrophic injuries such as permanent paralysis or even death from landing or falls on the back, neck, or head. I understand these risks and will not hold Ebenezer Middle School, Effingham Co. Board of Education, or any of its personnel responsible in the case of accident or injury at any time.
