FIELD EXPERIENCE/PRACTICUM

Purpose of the Sport ManagementField Experience/Practicum Manual

This manual has been developed for use with PHED-406: Directed Field Experience, and HESS-530: Practicum in Sport Management. It contains not only general information relative to the Field/Practicum experience but also information on specific course requirements and copies of forms necessary to document course work completed. Purpose of the Sport ManagementField Experience/Practicum

The basic purpose of the Sport ManagementField/Practicum experience is to provide an opportunity for Sport Management/Health Wellness majors to observe sport and leisure delivery agencies in operation (their procedures, organization, administration, hiring practices, maintenance, and programming aspects), and afford students opportunities to organize and implement activities under close supervision. Through this type of exposure, the Sport Management/Health Wellness major will receive practical, on-the-job experience in one or more types of exercise, sport and leisure agencies, which will further complement and enhance the student’s learning, and prepare him/her to enter the professional field upon graduation.

For the purpose of necessary feedback from the student to the Department’sField/PracticumExperience Supervisor, the student, during his/her placement will be responsible for submitting a weekly report to the Department’s Supervisor, addressing the following areas:
