Essex Youth Bus

The Parish Council will be sponsoring 6 visits of the Youth Bus during the summer holidays.

The mobile unit comes complete with two experienced and qualified youth workers. Facilities on board include laptops, TV & DVD, Xbox 360, digital cameras, sporting activities, board games, art and craft materials, together with information and advice on issues that affect young people. The unit is particularly aimed at young people aged between 13-19 years.

The bus will visit De Vere Road between 6.30-9.00 p.m. on the following Wednesdays:

25th July, 1st August, 8th August, 15th August, 22nd August and 29th August.

Summer Activity Day

Braintree District Council will be holding a Summer Activity Day in Earls Colne Village Hall on Friday 10th August.

New Hospital Hopper

A new free shuttle service for the elderly and disabled is being introduced and will be available to Earls Colne residents. The service will operate Mondays to Fridays and will offer a return service to Broomfield Hospital, Halstead Hospital and Braintree Community Hospital. To book in advance ring 01376 327357.

Heart and Sole Health Walks Scheme

Earls Colne walks take place every Thursday starting in front of the Co-op at 10 a.m. The circular walks last approximately 30 – 40 minutes and are led by an experienced leader. Regular 30 minute walks can reduce blood pressure and cholesterol, aid weight loss, de-stress and relax, improve stamina and strengthen bones. There will be coffee afterwards. Village Agent

The Village Agent, Peter Darlington, provides a face to face signposting service for people living in rural communities. He can provide help with financial entitlement, home fire safety & security, housing & getting jobs done, support opportunities for family or carers, travel & community transport, healthy living advice, local services and much more. He can also assist elderly or disabled people who are having difficulties with the Digital Switchover. Peter can be contacted on 07540 720604 or at . He is also available at the Pump House Surgery on the third Friday of each month between 1000 and 1200, and at the Library on the last Tuesday of the month between 1500 and 1700.

Earls Colne Village Hall

The Village Hall, which is located in York Road, was extensively refurbished 1991 and now offers comprehensive facilities for parties, weddings, events and activities in two halls.

Hall Facilities at-a-glance: Large Main Hall with Stage and Bar area; Back Hall with separate toilet facilities; Attractive Reception and Foyer; Spacious Kitchen facilities; Generously sized, soft seated chairs; Committee Room; Excellent Disabled access and Disabled Toilet; Good parking at rear.

Tuesday Lunch Club

Do you live alone, in or near Earls Colne, and like meeting people? There are vacancies at the lunch club held once a fortnight in Earls Colne Village Hall. The cost of a two course lunch and tea/coffee is £3.50 Please contact Helen Collins on 01787 223880 to book a place or for more details. Unfortunately transport cannot be provided at the moment.

Amenity Waste Vehicle

The Amenity Waste Vehicle will next be visiting Earls Colne on Saturday 15th September 2012 at the following locations:

9 a.m. – 10 a.m. De Vere Road

10 a.m. – 11 a.m. York Road

11 a.m. – 12 noon Tey Road Close

The following items will not be accepted: car batteries; liquids including paint; tyres; fridges; freezers.

Earls Colne Heritage Museum

The Museum, located in the Old Water Tower in Reubens Walk, is now in its eighth year. The Permanent Exhibition provides an insight into the development of Earls Colne from earliest times to the present day, and each year special exhibitions are staged complemented by slide shows that runs continuously during museum opening hours. The slide shows have recorded commentaries and video clips. A new exhibition entitled `What’s in a Name’ commenced in April and includes artwork and models produced by Earls Colne Primary School as part of a recent project.

Between Easter and October the Museum is open between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays and admission is free. More information and directions can be found at www.echm.org.uk

in the Council Chamber in the Village Hall. Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting and may address the Council during the 15 minute public session.
