e-PROFESSOR CERTIFICATION PROGRAM INFORMATION

The Division of Distance Learning & Information Technology offers Professional Development for Faculty interested in certification as an e-Professor. Upon completion of the program, faculty will have completed 45 hours of professional development in the areas of pedagogy and technology in distance teaching and learning.

What is An e-Professor?

An e-Professor trained professional educator who has demonstrated skills in effective distance course design and delivery. Instructors who successfully complete the program develop levels of competence in key areas found necessary for effective delivery of distance learning (LCTCS guidelines, Dooley and Linder, 2001). Effective delivery of distance learning “requires more from a teacher than only technical knowledge, but a reflective and innovative attitude that prioritizes the learning process and is focused on the student. This process is complemented by a constant evaluation of the course and the tools used to deliver courses online.” (

What is the e-Professor Program like at Delgado?

The program is guided by generally accepted instructor competencies required for exemplary distance learning. Competencies are skills, attributes, and characteristics necessary to succeed in a particular role. The distance learning instructor competencies are divided into 4 domains of expertise. The e-Professor Program involves 45 hours of course work that develop skills in each of these 4 domains.

To successfully complete the e-Professor Certification, the faculty member must complete 24 (?) hours of required instructional design and pedagogy courses, 9(?) hours of communication and behavioral courses, 7(?) hours of technology courses, and 5(?) hours of optional technology and instructional design/pedagogy courses. As new courses are developed, additional options will be added.
