Dublin University Central Athletic Club (DUCAC) is the governing body for the 50 sport clubs at the University of Dublin, Trinity College Dublin and the offices are based in the Sports Centre. DUCAC supports Clubs in delivery of activitiesas well as development and growth.

DUCAC is seeking to appoint a full-time Boat Club Development Officer who will be responsible for the Rowing Development programme of the Dublin University Boat Club (DUBC). He/she will work with all coaches to ensure programmes are running smoothly, and developed in accordance with plans and priorities determined by the DUBC and Long Term Committee (LTC).

The Development Officer will attend Coaching Committee meetings comprising the Development Coach, Lead Coach, Captain, DUBC and Chairman of Long Term Committee (LTC).

The Development Officer will be responsible for implementing and enforcing policies on boat use, team selection for Development Level athletes, talent identification, safety, regatta participation, andtraining programmes and will recommend changes/develop policies in need of improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Level 2 Rowing Ireland Coach certification or equivalent

Previous coaching experience

Valid Driver’s License

First Aid and CPR

Criminal Records Check

REQUIRED SKILLS:

As a central leadership figure, the Development Officer needs to possess the following qualities and skills: leadership, strong communication and interpersonal skills, excellent organizational and administration skills, planning skills necessary to recruit, retain and develop athletes and plan / develop programs, managing coaching personnel, and resolving conflicts. The Development Officer should also be: team oriented and enthusiastic, self motivated and willing to take initiative, be a problem solver and have experience running rowing programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work with the Coaching Committee to promote and conduct the DUBC Developmental Rowing program

Direct efforts for recruiting and retaining new members

Support the LTC in overseeing operations of the boathouse/enforcing club policies

In conjunction with the Boat and Equipment appointee from the LTC, supervise boat rigging and carry out basic boat repairs and generally assist in the management and maintenance of the fleet

Communicate with club & alumni members and the public as needed

Attend the Coaching Committee meetings and work with the other coaches, as a team, to provide anoptimal rowing experience for all members

Provide periodic reporting to the Coaching Committee and Dublin University Central Athletic Committee (DUCAC) reflecting on current progress of the program

Demonstrate a commitment to upgrading personal skills and qualifications

Other responsibilities and duties as assigned

TIME ALLOCATION:

The Development Officers allocation of time to achieve his/her objectives is ultimately at his/her own discretion, however the following is intended to aid in understanding the DUBC objectives and the committee’s view on how time should be allocated.

25% - Performance.This includes:Coordinating crew and team selections, preparing athletes for major competitions and attending regattas (if required), developing and supervising training programs, running training camps and the delivery of coaching to competitive athletes.

25% - Athlete Development. This includes: The recruitment and retention of athletes by ensuring that programs at all stages of athlete development are being run smoothly. Prepare for and encourage participation at various local regattas, and developing athletes to strive for excellence.Setting an example as a positive role model for the culture that DUBC and the LTC wish to foster as established in their Club Development Plan. Engaging with schools to develop a Talent ID programme.

25% - Equipment management and maintenance. This includes: Managing, maintaining and carrying out basic repairs to the fleet. Implementing protocols surrounding the appreciation/care & handling of boats and equipment.

25% - Administration.This includes: Attending to the logistical requirements of the Development squad, attending to other tasks as reasonably requested by DUCAC in the development of Sport in Trinity especially with respect to the role rowing and the Boat Club can play.

SUPERVISION/REPORTING:

The Development Officer is expected to attend Coaching Committee meetings and provide quarterly updates (1st week January, April, July, and October). He/she will report to the DUBC Lead Coach and the LTC Chairman. The Development Officer will receive annual performance reviews by 15th August.

The Development Coach will be assessed on his/her results or efforts in the following areas:

1) Recruitment of athletes

2) Athlete development

3) Reporting to Coaching Committee Meetings

4) Regatta attendance & athlete performance
