Dual Enrollment Advisory

Overview

Shelby County Schools, in partnership with Christian Brothers University, LeMoyne-Owen College, Southwest Tennessee Community College, Tennessee Technology Center at Memphis, The University of Memphis, and Victory University, providesopportunities foreligiblestudentsto earncollegecreditwhilesimultaneouslyearningahighschooldiploma.TheDual Enrollment Programgiveshighschoolstudentsajump-startonacollegeeducationandacareerby allowingstudentstotakecollegeandtechnicalcourseswhilestillenrolledinhighschool. Dual Enrollmentprovidesarigorousprogramthataccelerateslearninginacollegiateenvironment, andthecollege-levelcoursesserveaspowerfulmotivatorsforstudentstoworkhardandmeet intellectual challenges.

The Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation Dual Enrollment Grant covers tuition costs at $300 per course for participating students.

Student Requirements

All students must meet college admission requirements to participate in the program. Students must complete the online Dual Enrollment Grant through Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation. Dual Enrollment college applications must be submitted to the Dual Enrollment Office for approval. 160 S. Hollywood, Academic Office –Attention: Margaret Gilmore

Students must maintain a college GPA of 2.75 to remain eligible to receive funding under the Dual Enrollment Grant.

District Commitment

During the 2013-2014 academic year, SCS will cover the cost for tuition and books for each student enrolled in a dual enrollment course. Under the Memoranda of Agreement between SCSand the participating universities, the Dual Enrollment Grant will cover the state approved allotment of $300 per college course. There will be no cost to parents/guardians for students who are enrolled in Dual Enrollment courses each semester. The district will determine at a later date if the cost of college courses taken during the summer terms will be covered.
