Jun 10 – Dec 2010Skipper 32m Ketch

Took over command of S/Y Solitaire, employed and managed a crew of 5people and carried out a successful season cruising the Med with the owner, family and friends. Carried out a full refit study complete with refit costing quotations and analysis of European Shipyards that lead to a selection of an Italian shipyard.

Mar 10 – PresentFreelance Skipper

I have carried out various deliveries of various sizes. Recently I have carried out a number of deliveries of Motor Yachts from Palma to western med including a Cigarette Boat capable of speeds over 100kts. This involved a two man crew and choosing the right weather window for this type of boat.

Nov 09 – Mar 2010Skipper aboard a Jongert 22m

Successfully delivered S/Y Kuan from Palma to Australia via the Panama Canal. The role included the employment of delivery crew and carrying out the preparations for the ocean crossings (safety and equipment checks, provisioning, insurance and yacht agents selection). The owners guests were present onboard for most of the ocean passages whereby they were included in the rotas of the passage. Carried out full responsibility for all engineering aspects of the yacht including repairs whilst on passage.

Jan 09 – Oct 09Skipper aboard a Custom Sloop 24m

Took command of S/Y Kind of Blue in Palma and carried out the season around the Balearic Islands and Turkey. The position involved giving professional teaching to the owner and their family to sail in a safe and controlled manner. Duties involved maintaining the boat to a high standard whilst assigning tasks to the crew to ensure the yacht is maintained to a high level.

Sep 08 – Dec 08Skipper aboard a Jongert 27m

Carried out relief work onboard Twirlybird during an extensive refit in Portsmouth, UK to do a delivery from UK to the Caribbean. Carried out the supervision of stepping of the mast and completed the re-rigging of the yacht with new running rigging and sails. Carried out sea trials including the balancing of a new engine and checking rigging and sails and the overhaul of the hydraulic system.

Completed the passages across Biscay from Portsmouth to Gibraltar where the owner changed their plans from going to the Caribbean to selling the yacht in Palma.

Mar 08 – Sep 08Freelance Skipper

Carried out several new yacht deliveries and weekend charters ranging from 50ft to 75ft for Sunbird within the Mediterranean. This involved the checking the yachts for sea worthiness, safety equipment, and obtaining additional delivery crew. Some of the deliveries involved the new owners being onboard for the delivery passage who wanted instruction on their new yacht.

Also have been refurbishing a 1967 30ft wooden classic back to her original condition, which has involved stripping, and sanding back to wood before the application of varnish. Re-caulking of the deck and refurbishment of all deck fittings.

Feb 07 – Mar 08Skipper aboard S/Y Scarlet Muse, Swan 64

Took command of Scarlet Muse in Tahiti bound for the Med for the summer season and a major refit in Palma. Late in the season Scarlet Muse was sold as owner wanted to upgrade to a build a bigger yacht.

  • Extensive knowledge of the South Pacific Islands and New Zealand waters
  • Complied and completed season cruising plans for the owner in the South Pacific & Med
  • Negotiated and Completed shipping delivery contract from New Zealand to the Med
  • Sourcing of permanent and delivery crew in remote places.
  • Completed major refit involving full engineering overhaul and interior refurbishment
  • Maintaining and carrying out improvements of all systems.
  • Compilation and the selection of the shortlist for Naval Architects for the new build
  • Providing design concepts and owners requirements to naval architects , including visiting of many yards worldwide for composite/carbon capabilities
  • Advising on technical systems requirements for the new build. i.e. Hydraulics, engine, generator, watermaker
  • Carried out test sailing on behalf of the owner on various types and sizes of yachts.

Apr 06 – Feb 07Skipper aboard S/Y Independence of Hern, Moody 64

Took charge of Independence during the middle of her first refit in Palma Apr 06 which included the installation of new upholstery and furnishings throughout, overhaul of engineering systems (i.e. watermaker, hydraulics, generator and air conditioning systems).

  • Took control of the cruising programmes for the owner and his guests for their vacations which included Spain, Turkey, Greece and Italy
  • Carried out all periodical maintenance to all electrical/hydraulic and mechanical systems
  • Managed delivery crew and Chef/1st Mate for the season
  • Providing the owner with detailed maintenance and cost reports on projects and managed any contractors required
  • Providing water sports and shore based activities for guests whilst aboard(i.e. wakeboarding, water-skiing, donuts, sightseeing excursions etc)
  • Appointed yacht agents for clearing in/out procedures of relevant countries including any flag VAT issues
  • Liaising and appointed yacht brokers for the sale of Independence due to owners changes in plans

Reason for leaving was due to the owner had sold the boat and new owner did not require crew,

Sept 05 – Apr 06Delivery Skipper

Delivered various size sailing yachts including S/Y Signe 135ft Ketch from Palma to Gibraltar.

Sept 03 – Aug 05Skipper aboard S/Y Rebecca

Sailed in the Mediterranean from Spain to Turkey and Caribbean with 2 Atlantic Crossings including Atlantic Islands.

  • In depth knowledge of cruising areas, ports, marinas and anchorages in the Caribbean, Mediterranean and Atlantic
  • Preparation of the yacht for ocean passages (safety equipment, pre-checks, watches, passage on route, weather routing etc)
  • Carried out repairs as required, including rigging, engine and electronic repairs and have a network of reliable contacts and locations to carry out any major repairs or refits
  • Selection and management of crew onboard
  • Maintenance and cleaning of all systems onboard
  • Provided tailor-made itineraries for guests, complete with onshore recommendations
