Equipment

The Squirrel Cage Induction Motor Frames 71 to 250 are totally enclosed fan cooled (TEFC) motors with integral cast cooling fins on frame and end shields. They have winding designs which are suitable for use on 200 to 690 Volts, 50 Hz /60 Hz power systems and incorporate windings with double enamelled class ‘F’ or class ‘H’ insulation, which are impregnated with an insulating varnish. The enclosures are made of high grade cast iron with foot and/or C Face/D Flange mounting for horizontal or vertical shaft axis up or down. The external fan is of non-sparking construction and is made of polypropylene, bronze, aluminium or cast iron. They are bi-directional axial flow types, for vertical shaft down mounted option motors are fitted with canopy over fan cover inlet. On the motors up to and including 250, the terminal box is mounted on the right hand side viewed from drive end with option of left hand side. All terminal boxes are sealed with one-piece neoprene gasket between frame, box and gland plate. Variations to sealing arrangements are made to meet the client-specified IP Code requirements such as V-ring, gamma seal or oil seal for bearing sealing arrangement. Motors frame size D160 and larger are fitted with PTC thermistors protection within windings with the leads terminated in the main terminal box.

The Ex tD version of the motors have gaskets glued and additional component machining as per certified drawings. Lifting eyebolt holes are also sealed and alternative grease seals are used at the shaft/bearing areas. These features can also utilise to achieve optional IP56/IP66 ratings on Ex nA and Ex e motors.

Optionally the equipment may be supplied with one or more of the variants:

a)  Auxiliary Terminal Boxes mounted on the sides of the Main Terminal Box to facilitate connection to:

i)  Anti-condensation heaters rated for operation up to 240 volts

ii)  PTC Thermistors

iii)  Resistance Temperature Devices (RTD's)

iv)  Thermocouples

v)  Auxiliary circuits connected via auxiliary terminal block as detailed in certified drawing lists.

b)  Drain plugs of porous material fitted to the NDE and DE end-shields or motor frame, according to the motor mounting position. Provision is also made for fitting plugs to the end-shields at the lowest point when the motor is mounted vertically.

c)  Mechanical attachments for the fitting of bearing condition monitoring devices.

d)  Alternative ball, roller or angular contact bearings to suit the drive application.

e)  Weather cover.

f)  Double shaft extension.

g)  Non-standard shaft dimensions.

h)  The retrofitting of Auxiliaries after the stator has been varnished.

i)  Alternative sealing arrangements to provide for the IP classifications listed in Table 1.

j)  Alternative supply from a variable voltage variable frequency (VVVF) drive with alternative windings suitable for use in conjunction with a (VVVF) drive for Ex nA and Ex tD motors only.

k)  Alternative cable entries as detailed in the certified drawing list with option for blank gland plate.

Notes to Tables 2 and 3:

1)  Motor Types are detailed in Table 4. Where motor type is not listed then kW rating / speed applies to all Motor Types.

2)  For tE times, refer to Motor Type as detailed in Table 4 and tE times calculations as detailed in the relevant drawing for Motor Type from the Certified Drawing Lists.

3)  A suffix letter to frame size maybe added for indication of A = 2 pole, B = 4~8 pole direct drive, C = 4~8 pole direct / belt drive.

4)  The electrical rating of the equipment at 60 Hz can be 1.15 times the value given in Tables 2 and 3.

Conditions of Certification:

1.  Where ‘Ex e’ motors are applied as variable speed (VVVF) drives, each motor and its specified controller shall be tested as a combination unit in accordance with IEC60079-0, IEC60079-7, TECO test procedures and the duty cycle for each application to ensure that the limiting temperature and temperature class are not exceeded.

2.  For ‘Ex e’ applications, the electrical protection shall be set in accordance with the tE time for each motor given in the relevant drawing from the Certified Drawing list, depending on motor type as detailed in table 4.

3.  Where ‘Ex nA’ motors are applied as variable speed (VVVF) drives, either each motor shall be type-tested for this duty in association with the specified converter and the protective devices provided or the motor temperature-rise shall be calculated in accordance with IEC60079-0 and IEC 60079-15 for the duty required/specified to ensure that the limiting temperature and temperature class are not exceeded.

4.  Where ‘Ex tD’ motors are applied as variable speed (VVVF) drives each motor shall be fitted with at least three thermistors, one in each phase having a reference temperature so as to ensure that the winding insulation is adequately protected against overheating for the insulation used, and supply is disconnected before its limiting temperature has been exceeded under the worst conditions of operation. The temperature class shall not be exceeded.

5.  Where anti-condensation heaters are fitted, the supply to the heaters shall only be switched on after the main supply to each motor has been disconnected.
