DRAWING AND DESIGN SKETCH SHEET: (NO LATE SKETCHES ACCEPTED)

INSTRUCTIONS: All your sketches MUST be done in your sketchbook in order to be accepted otherwise you will lose 10 points that week. Your sketches must be at least 6 inches and in color. You are not to copy exactly from your reference picture because that is plagiarism. Spend at least 35 minutes to 1 hour on each sketch.
REQUIREMENTS
(1) Must color fully using 3 different colors unless otherwise different. White doesn’t count for the sketch(5 pts.)
You are not to use highlighters when coloring.
(2) Must be at least 6” tall or wide. (5 pts.)
(3) Do what is required for the week. (10 pts.)
(4) Reference (printed out or on phone) (10 pts.)
*If you plagiarize your reference then points will be deducted. TOTAL: 30 points
January 16, 2015:FREE SKETCH: Create a balanced composition using a medium of choice. Print out a reference picture/source of inspiration and TAPE it to the back of your sketch. Your inspiration can be a design that is a springboard for clothing for a character etc. You do not have to do a character. Free sketch
January 23, 2015: WORD IMAGES: Spell your name and each letter must represent an object. Example the letter “i” can look like a candle and a flame. Print out a reference picture/source of inspiration and TAPE it to the back of your sketch.
January 30,2015: 4th ANNUAL ART SHOW: Design a flier for the 4th Annual Art Show. Include the following information: Friday, April 24th, 2015, starting at 6:30pm, over 500 student artwork will be displayed, in the main gym, College Art fair in the cafeteria, Chamber Strings Orchestra & Jazz Band will be playing, Featured Students Artists will be representing local elementary and middle schools. (Some student sketches will be used for Open House and conferences to promote the event.) Print out a reference picture/source of inspiration and TAPE it to the back of your sketch. Think about balance of color and change your lettering style (fonts).

February 20, 2015: RECYCLED FASHION: Draw a fashion model wearing an outfit that has been 100% recycled. Think about texture, color and accessories. Remember thatmodels are generally about 8-9 heads tall. Also, draw arrows to inform me what materials you would use to make each item. Materials should not be repeated more than 2x. Title your outfit as if you are advertising it. Your words and colors of the title should relate to the outfit. Print out a reference picture/source of inspiration and TAPE it to the back of your sketch.
February 27, 2015: LANDSCAPE: Draw a landscape of Russia, Poland, India, Greek, Italy or another country that includes an architectural piece (building or bridge etc. that shows me that is characteristic of that country). Use colored pencils. To create distance use blues, greens and purples as an overlay. When using colored pencils, do not color harshly. Control the colored pencil by coloring softly and then layer that with other colors to create depth. Remember to use directional line (straight coloring and curved coloring). Use references. Print out a reference picture/source of inspiration and TAPE it to the back of your sketch.
March 6, 2015:SHADING GLASS & METAL: At home set up a still life of a spoon, clear glass and a bowl or have a reference from the computer. Create values to the highlights and the curves and how it affects shading. Pay attention to where the light hits the objects. Use pencil for all three objects. You should show at least 5 different values. Show mapping for the spoon, clear glass and bowl when you shade. Also, the shadow of your objects as touches the table should be shown. Take a picture of your still life that you set up at home and show Ms. Barba on your phone or print and paste to the back of your sketch.
March 13, 2015: SELF-PORTRAIT: Draw a self-portrait using pencil. Include shading. Print out a reference picture/source of inspiration and TAPE it to the back of your sketch. I will see how you use length of lines, curves, angles, distance between shapes and mapping.

March 27, 2015: HANDS IN ACTION: Draw a set of hands using pen. Draw one hand with pencil and use the scumbling technique. Then draw the other hand with hatching and cross-hatching. You do not get points for tracing your hands. Must include details (shading, veins, knuckles, cuticles etc.)Print out a reference picture/source of inspiration and TAPE it to the back of your sketch.

April 17, 2015: MOVIE POSTER: Design a movie poster starring you in your favorite movie or animation. You do not have to include your full body in the movie poster. Include a title. The title should relate in color and design with the rest of your composition. Think about composition of the objects and the placement of the title. Print out a reference picture/source of inspiration and TAPE it to the back of your sketch.
April 24, 2015: CARTOON CHARACTER: Create your own cartoon character in a scene. The scene should be of the 50’s, 60’s or 70’s. Print out a reference picture/source of inspiration and TAPE it to the back of your sketch.
May 1, 2015: PERSPECTIVE DRAWING: Draw a one-point perspective drawing. Include foreground, middle-ground and background. Print out a reference picture/source of inspiration and TAPE it to the back of your sketch.
May 8, 2015:REDO ANY SKETCH: Redo any sketch and take it a step further using a lot more techniques etc. Just as long as I can see you progressed. When you turn in this sketch please attach to the sketch that you are redoing or just tab the 2 sketches with a post-it note.You do not need a reference for this sketch.
May 15, 2015: ATHLETE: Draw an athlete in action. Remember generally adults are 7-8 heads tall. Show value in the muscle tone. Only use pencil and show at least 5 different values with your pencil. Print out a reference picture/source of inspiration and TAPE it to the back of your sketch.
May 22, 2015:COLORED STILL LIFE: Draw a still life of random objects around your house. Must have at least 3 objects with 3 different textures overall. When coloring thing about texture. Each object should have different textures. Take a picture of your still life that you set up at home and show Ms. Barba on your phone or print and paste to the back of your sketch.
