Job Description

Job Summary

To work as part of the Facilities team to ensure that the standards of Saint Michael’s premises and equipment, health and safety and other elements of infrastructure match and support the high quality of care provided to patients, clients and their families, and that other departments receive effective support

Key Tasks

1. To plan and schedule work for the team from annual maintenance plans, fault reports, projects, equipment loan requests and other requests for work, consulting with the Support Services Manager and other members of the team to ensure the best use of resources, achievement of tasks taking into account priorities, and a realistic and achieveable work load.

2. To work with the Support Services Manager in the plannng of projects consulting wit the rest of the team as required, and ensuring that materials and any contractors are arranged to achieve the smooth running and completion of the project to plan.

3.Working with the Support Services Mangaer to support the day to day operation of the Equipment Loan Service ensuring that equipment is maintained, and infection control procedures are carried out at regular intervals with clear complete records produced and that cleaning is carried out on all equipment as it is collected and delivered. Maintain the inventory of equipment and information on loans is updated to support the overall management of the service.

4.To undertake planned and unplanned maintenance work to a high standard in line with the annual maintenance plan and fault reporting, involving contractors as necessary and ensuring that all completed work is logged clearly. The plan will include exterior work as well as internal cleaning, checking and repair.

5. To undertake planned projects arising from the capital refurbishment plan, or the planned maintenance.

6.To provide transport to patients supported by the Outpatient unit following guidance from Outpatients on safety and security. To transfer post and other times between Burton and Crimple Houses on a daily basis, and undertake any other transport as required.

7. Working with the Support Services Manager support the Equipment Loan Service by maintaining, testing and preparing the items for use, or return to store, and making deliveries and collections as necessary

8. To ensure that the vehicles are maintained in a clean, tidy and roadworthy state, by cleaning them on a weekly basis, and undertaking safety checks reporting any faults or damage to Support Services Manager for action to be agreed.

9.Undertake the planned program me of testing for areas such as Portable Appliances, legionella, fire system, and support contractors undertaking equipment and system maintenance and testing.

10. Work with theSupport Services Manager and to develop and maintain the fixed asset register updating the records as necessary.

11. Contribute to the development of the building and systems knowledge base, and update or make available information as necessary once it is in place.

12.Ensure that the Seminar room is prepared for use according to the booking requirements, liaising with the Reception and Catering as necessary.

13. Provide on-going support to other departments within Saint Michael’s with any practical tasks as required.

14.To share the out of hours support on building matters with the Support Services Manager

Person Specification

Essential Education and Qualifications / Full Clean Driving License
Essential Experience
Essential Knowledge Skill / Good Communication and interpersonal skills
Driving minibus to MIDAS standard, or be prepared to undertake MIDAS training.
Able to undertake PAT testing or be willing to undertake training
Understanding and knowledge of health and safety
Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance
Strong Organisationaland planning skills
Strong project management skills
Demonstrable practical skills inmaintenance including joinery, painting and basic plastering
Basic IT skills
Essential Attributes / Understanding of confidentiality
Ability to relate to Hospice patients
Good collaborative working skills
Able to deal with a busy and pressurized work load
Flexible in attitude to work.
