Cross-cutting Concerns, Issues, Suggestions, Questions for ALL v1.1 Documents and Deliverables

NOTE: All the below issues at the discretion of the co-chairs and time permitting. As always, technical issues must be posted in JIRA issues at least 48 hours to be considered by the TC. Naturally, any TC member can create or comment on a JIRA issue. Upload related documents to the OASIS website (please add links to the uploaded document in the JIRA issue). Please contact the co-chairs if you have any questions or problems.

* TOSCA-108: Catch-all for All Editorial Suggestions That Do NOT Change Semantics, e.g., spelling, grammar, readability

REMINDER: While a general approach can be decided by motion, specific proposals and contributions need to be JIRA issue

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Paul calls meeting to order at 9:11am pacific. We have reached quorum.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Paul makes motion to approve proposed agenda as posted.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Juergen seconds.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Motion passed by unanimous consent.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Paul makes motion to approve draft minutes of Sept. 29 meeting as posted by Juergen.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Damian seconds.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Motion passes by unanimous consent.

Hemal Surti morphed into Hemal Surti (Cisco)

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Paul reminds people that TOSCA Simple Profile in YAML v1.0 is going through public review.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): TOSCA Simple Profile in YAML v1.1 in the pipeline and currently going through review as well.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Matt makes TC aware of the fact that the Aria TOSCA open source project has been proposed as an Apache project in mid-August and is now an incubated object. What do we need to do to make sure that Apache is aware of the TC's position about this project since Apache wants to position it as a "reference implementation".

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Paul and Matt plan to discuss this off-line and report back.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Next agenda item: report on Interoperability Ad Hoc. Matt stresses the importance of formalizing test cases so we can prove conformance.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Matt invites people who want to see TOSCA succeed to participate in the Interop work and submit test cases.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Matt invites people who want to see TOSCA succeed to participate in the Interop work and submit test cases.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Paul presents an idea: can we make TC members more comfortable with creating tests if we have Luc walk through the process of creating test assertions during a future TC meeting.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Matt suggests it might make sense to host reference implementations on the OASIS github repo.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Matt observes that it is typical for a github repo to include a README file that contains all the necessary instructions for using that repo. If those instructions are insufficient, we should improve the documentation.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Paul stresses again the importance of making sure that all TOSCA implementations in our ecosystem are interoperable.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Next agenda item: update on Container and Clustering Ad-Hoc by Hemal Surti.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Hemal walks through his presentation (which has been uploaded to the portal)

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): https://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/tosca/document.php?document_id=59082

Paul Lipton (co-chair) public: Motion from Paul: "The TC approves, in principle, the research and conclusions created by the Container and Clustering Ad Hoc Group, and accepts the group's recommendation that they now disband in order to continue their work, as individuals, within the various other ad hoc groups, most notably the YAML ad hoc group with the goal of integrating their research recommendations into future releases of TOSCA."

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Damian seconds.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Motion passes by unanimous consent.

Paul Lipton (co-chair) public: Motion from Paul: The TC thanks Hemal Surti for his leadership of the TOSCA TC's Container and Clustering Ad Hoc Group.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Matt wholeheartedly seconds

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Motion passes by unanimous consent.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Next agenda item: Matt provides update on Simple Profile in YAML ad-hoc

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Matt has been juggling TOSCA work with his other project (around serverless). Luc has done work on when to use group types vs. abstract node types. Chris also proposing to do work around formalizing composition and how artifacts can represent entire topologies. We will also incorporate the work done by the Container Ad-Hoc.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Paul suggests that the YAML ad-hoc group should consider creating a whitepaper on TOSCA for microservices.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Matt reports that he has received similar work around NFV etc. Also reminds the TC that we have been invited to contribute an IEEE article.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Paul solicits more participation in the NFV work group.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Paul would like to see such a whitepaper become a TC-approved document.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Thinh inquires about the timeline for the IEEE paper. When are we supposed to create our submission and when will it be published?

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Damian reports about the process: we first iterate on the table of contents. Once there is agreement, then the paper will get written. With reviews, this will take a couple of months, after which the paper is submitted. Then we will receive comments, we will edit, and resubmit. There is no real deadline.

Chris Lauwers (Scribe): Thinh is happy to help with the NFV paper. He proposes that when the NFV ad-hoc finalizes acceptable content, members of the ad-hoc can provide content. This will likely not happen until December or January.
