PurposeThe role of the Assistant Manager is to actively lead and support a team of Community Support Workers in the conduct of their duties in accordance with Sunnyfield’s core values, policies and procedures. The Assistant Manager will promote the independence of our clients by providing quality services using a person centered approach that focuses on developing their potential to participate actively within their home and the community. The Assistant Manager performs a direct support role and undertakes some operational management tasks as requested by the Service Manager.

- Assistant Managers are employed under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010.
- Sunnyfield Supported LivingAssistant Managerwillbe based at Allambie Heights but may be requested to work at another site or service outlet should the need arise.

Position Dimensions
- Assistant Managers report to a Service Manager or Service Coordinator.
- A designated team of Community Support Workers report to the Assistant Manager.
Relevant Experience
- A minimum of 3 years experience within a human services environment preferably with people with disabilities.
- A minimum of 2 years experience in contributing to the operation of an accommodation service and in the allocation of tasks and leading a small, cohesive and successful team.
Knowledge & Skills
- Broad knowledge of services for people with disabilities.
- Knowledge of NSW Disability Services Act 1993, NSW Disability Service Standards and other relevant legislation.
- Good conflict resolution skills.
- Demonstrated high level ofwritten and verbal communication skills.
- Well developed time management skillswithin competing priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as an effectiveteam member.
- Exhibit a personal commitment to service, integrity and professionaldevelopment.
- Demonstrated experience in using standard computer applications.
Qualifications
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- Current Driver’s Licence.
- Certificate IV in human services such as Welfare, Disability or related field (or willingness to obtain) and / or evidence of a minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role.
Role and Responsibilities
Clients
- Lead and coordinate a team of Community Support Workers to provide our clients with an accommodation service that is person centred and strengths based and reflects the legislative framework for disability services.
- Uphold the rights and responsibilities of our clients in line the NSW Disability Service Standards and organisation policies and procedures.
- Assist our clients to be involved in activities through active support at home and the community.
- Encourage, support and assist our clients to develop and maintain family and community relationships.
- Involve our clients in decision making in every aspect of the service they receive.
- Perform or assist in a key worker role as per organisational policy and procedure when required.
- Transportation of our clientsto community facilities, events and medical appointments.
- Demonstrate adherence to all plans that are developed to provide support for health care, communication, meal time and any areas that require specific support plans.
- Support people using a positive approach to behaviours of concern.
- Demonstrate adherence to restrictive practise protocols in implementation and monitoring of these practices.
- Assistour clients to achieve their personal goals and increase their independence through support and participation in decision making.
- Assist and prompt our clients to maintain the home environment which will include completing and assisting with tasks if the person is unable to complete.
- Ensure that quality service is provided to meet individual’s specific health needs.
- Assist our clients to maintain a high level of personal hygiene and care.
- Support and assist our clients with medication as required in compliance with Sunnyfield medication procedures.
- Assist our clients to maintain good nutrition.Promote a positive image of our clients and the organisation
- Support the advocacy process.
- Support the division in creating a person centred performance based culture and work in a person centred approach with staff, clients, families and other stakeholders.
Work Health and Safety
- Lead and coordinate a team of Community Support Workers to adhere to carry out duties in compliance with Sunnyfield’s WHSpolicies and procedures.
- Carry out duties in compliance with Sunnyfield’s WHS policies and procedures.
- Undertake all training in relation to WHS.
- Report all WHS matters to the Supervisor and/or WHS committee representative.
Communication
- Maintain positive, clear and regular communication with a team of Community Support Workers.
- Actively maintain open communication with all stakeholders including our clients, families, guardians, carers, advocates and all statutory authorities.
- Communicate with other Assistant Managers and Service Manager about issues affecting our clients and any work related issues.
- Promote a harmonious and supportive workplace.
- Develop and maintain documentation as required.
- Ensure confidentiality is maintained.
Other Roles and Responsibilities
- Adherence to Sunnyfield’s Code of Conduct at all times.
- Conduct all work related activities in accordance with Sunnyfield’sPolicies and procedures.
- Lead and contribute to the day to day operation of the service, including the provision of direct support, undertaking some household tasks and household decision making.
- To complete all tasks as set out in the duty rosters, daily support schedules, diary and communication book.
- Attend all staff meetings and training as required.
- Complete other tasks as requested by Service Manager.
