Bay-Friendly Rated Landscapes is a third-party verified rating system that recognizes excellence in landscape design, construction and maintenance practices in the San Francisco Bay Area. The project must meet all 15 required practices and score a minimum of 60 points on the Bay-Friendly Rated Scorecard for Civic, Commercial and Multifamily Landscapes. The consultant shall demonstrate sufficient experience designing landscapes that are Bay-Friendly Rated or demonstrate sufficient experience with the preparation of construction plans and specifications that incorporate Bay-Friendly practices and principles. It is preferred that at least one member of the Design Team assigned to this project shall include a “Bay-Friendly Qualified Design Professional”.

Landscape Designer’s (LD)Responsibilities Include:

  • Scorecard Goals Meeting. Attend a project meeting including the Client, Rater early in the design process to identify the Bay-Friendly Landscaping measures the project will seek to include.
  • Project Application: Provide project contacts, project data such as square footages and preliminary water calculations to the Rater for their inclusion in the Project Application.
  • Plan Review. Provide digital (pdf) copies of the plans and specs to the Bay-Friendly Advisor or Rater at the following points. Allow for a 2 week review period.
  • Initial plan review during [insert phase such as 65% CD]
  • Second plan review during [insert phase such as 95% CD]
  • Bid Documents
  • Innovation.LD to submit an initial request for innovations to the Rater for review and submittal to ReScape staff. Innovation submittal must explain how innovation either exceeds criteria for an existing credit OR how innovations practice is not currently in the Bay-Friendly Rating Manual. If approvedLD to provide language as requested on the Innovation Request Form for final submittal for ReScape.
  • Educational Signage.LD to create educational signage meeting the requirements of the Bay-Friendly Rating Manual. Before fabrication the LD is to submit digital artwork to thee Bay-Friendly Rater for review and approval by ReScape[delete if no educational signage is proposed]
  • Pre-Construction Meeting.Attend a project meeting including the Client, Raterand Landscape Contractor.
  • Post-ConstructionSite Inspection.Attend a project meeting including the Client, Rater, and Landscape Contractor.
  • BFL Documentation. Collect all applicable submittals outlined in the Bay-Friendly Rating Manual to submit to Raterfor review.
  • Final Rating Results.LD to update project intake form, project data form, water savings calculator as appropriate. LD to fill out evaluation form and provide project photos to Rater for inclusion in the Final Rating Results.
