FriarTuck is a software company dedicated to developing and marketing optimized event scheduling solutions. FriarTuck powers its products with unique combination of optimization technologies, utilizing the latest developments in constraint programming, Operations Research and heuristic search. The use of these technologies allow FriarTuck to deploy robust and cost-effective solutions that add unique value to its clients by generating optimized event schedules reliably and within acceptable runtime. The scheduling solutions are professionally designed, complete with user-friendly interfaces, and are integrated in the client’s software and hardware infrastructure.

FriarTuck focuses on optimized workforce scheduling solutions in healthcare, airline, hospitality and manafacturing industries. FriarTuck's Research and Development division is constantly striving to ensure that FriarTuck remains at the leading edge of event scheduling technologies. Some of the marquee clients include NASA (US), Wharton Business School (US), Big East Conference (US), University of St. Andrews (UK), Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore, Changi General Hospital (Singapore) and National University Hospital.

Speaker Profiles:

Dr. Martin Henz, Founder & CTO of FriarTuck Pte Ltd

Dr. Martin is co-designer of the Oz language, and co-developer of the DFKI Oz system. He brings 12 years of constraint programming research and practice. He worked as research scientist at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence DFKI on event scheduling applications ranging from university timetabling, over automated music composition, to sports scheduling. Martin authored several international publications on constraint programming applications and served on the programming committee of the main international conferences on constraint programming and timetabling (e.g. CP 2002, MISTA 2003, PATAT 2004).

Since 1997, Martin is staff member (Assistant Professor since 1999) in the School of Computing at NUS, where he conducts research on combinatorial search problems, constraint programming system design and implementation. He holds the degree of Master of Science in computer science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and a doctoral degree (Dr.rer.nat.) from the Saarland University, Germany.

Sevugan Alagappan, Founder & COO of FriarTuck Pte Ltd

Sevugan is responsible for developing strategic and operational technical plans that realize FriarTuck's business development strategy and research activities. He has expertise in mathematical programming and heuristic techniques. Sevugan is the Chief Designer/Architect for FriarTuck’s flagship product, FTStaffRosterer: Optimized Workforce Scheduling Solution.

Sevugan was invited by the Asian Productivity Organization to participate as a Resource Speaker in a symposium titled "Technological Innovations in SMEs" held in Taipei, Taiwan. He was on the organizing committees for the Startup Singapore and Stanford Global Entrepreneurs Challenge business plan competitions. He has served as a judge and mentor in Startup Singapore and Lee Kuan Yew Business Plan Competitions.

He won an innovation award for his effort in studying and solving complex nurse rostering problem. Sevugan holds a Bachelors (Hons) degree in Computer Engineering at the National University of Singapore.
