SCHOLARSHIPS , AWARDS, AND NOVELS

A Novel: The protection of people and their property during a fire accident requires a good selection of building materials. To the knowledge of the author, many researchers have studied the effect of polypropylene fibre as a synthetic fibre for reinforcing self-compacting concrete (SCC) at elevated temperatures and yet there is still a lack of studies into the effect of natural fibre for reinforcing SCC, especially coconut fibre which is not investigated yet. The novel approach in the thesis is to use coconut fibre in volume fractions of 0.05, 0.10 and 0.15%, as an addition to SCC to mitigate against explosive spalling of the concrete at elevated temperatures by studying the mechanical and the physical properties of the resultant concrete mixes.
