DORSET SCHOOLS and YOUTHS GYMNASTIC ASSOCIATION

SCHOOLS’ TEAMS TUMBLING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2012

VENUE: ROSSMORE LEISURE CENTRE, POOLE

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 18th 2012 8 a.m.onwards

You are invited to enter teams for this annual competition. It is always a popular event with the children and these sets have been designed to be within the reach of school clubs. If you do not run a gym club at your school, I suspect there will be pupils who belong to outside clubs and who would be very happy to represent their school. If there is a club operating close to you, I know the club coaches will be only too willing to help. The entry fee is £15 per team.

Thereare 12 competition categories in line with the school year groupings:

Girls Mixed Boys

Years 3 and 4* * *

Years 5 and 6* * *

Years 7 and 8* * *

Years 9 and above* * *

Each team consists of 5 gymnasts, all to compete but with only the top 4 scores counting in the final total. For mixed teams the scores of at least one boy and one girl must be included in the final total.

You may enter up to TWOteams in any category but you may not transfer children from one team to another, nor may children work outside their year group. Substitutes are not permitted once the competition has started. [The organisers reserve the right to limit the number of teams per school/category in the case of over-subscription.]

For insurance purposes, it is necessary that a teacher from the school or a designated responsible adult should be on site throughout the attendance of the students, both to supervise and to encourage the competitors.

The closing date for entries is SATURDAY27th OCTOBER. We shall not beable to accept late entries. Shortly after this date we will send out a programme and final details; will you please enclose a stamped, addressed envelope for this, along with your entry form and entry fee.

Please note that for health and safety reasons we may have to adjust the format of the day, depending on the number of entries. We intend to start the sessions as follows: Years 3 & 4 at 8.15 a.m. (doors open 8 a.m.); Years 5 & 6 at 11.45 (doors open 11.30) Years 7 & 8 and 9+ at 2.45 p.m. (doors open 2.30 p.m.)

I do hope that you will be able to join us.

(Tariff 10.0)

The best 4 scores count towards the team total. Depending on numbers of teams competing and the number of judging panels, the first four or six teams in each category qualify for the final. Where there are 4 teams or fewer in a category, their first round is a straight final. No scores are carried over but the order of working in the final will be determined by the first round scores; the lowest will go first.

All competitors will receive a certificate and the top 3 teams in each category will receive medals. There are no individual awards in this competition.

The judging panels will be instructed to give credit to properly executed routines and children should not be encouraged to perform poorly executed high tariff sequences for a perceived advantage. A low tariff exercise done well should beat a high tariff exercise done badly.

All the routines should flow without stopping and travel in a straight line.

Gymnasts attempting flicks (tumbles 5 & 6) which are deemed dangerous by the organisers may be asked to change their routine.
