The University Center of Lake County delivers higher education programs to the citizens of LakeCounty. Through the collaborative effort of our member institutions, the UniversityCenter provides a number of bachelor’s completion programs as well as graduate and professional development opportunities. Program Description

This program is designed to prepare students for leadership roles in a global economy and an evolving workforce. Students develop their professional speaking and writing skills as well as the interpersonal and group skills that are necessary to be an organizational leader.

Program Highlights

School of Leadership & Continuing Studies / An academic division specifically created to serve the needs of the adult learner
Accelerated format / Provides adult learners the opportunity to complete an undergraduate degree in an accelerated format compatible with their personal and professional needs
Class format / Face-to-face instruction; 5-week and 8-week courses meet 1 evening per week
Faculty / Faculty come from diverse backgrounds, work in their chosen professions and enjoy teaching. They provide current, hands-on knowledge of day to day operations in the business world.
Credit Evaluation / Evaluation of credit earned at other accredited institutions. Credit awarded for military and corporate/occupational training and work experience. A maximum of 68 semester hours from community colleges; up to 86 semester hours of work from a combination of community colleges and 4-year colleges or universities will be accepted.
Credit by Examination / Credit can be earned through CLEP, ACE, DANTES, prior learning portfolio; limited internal proficiency examinations given for placement (no credit).

Admission Requirements

  • You must have left high school at least seven years before entering DominicanUniversity.
  • You must have a High School diploma from an accredited high school or GED.
  • You must have a minimum of 30 semester credit hours of baccalaureate-oriented courses for financial aid consideration.

Application Procedure

  • Submit completed applicationon line at (Apply to DU) along with a $45 application fee.
  • Submit official transcripts from all previous college work.
  • Submit all documents for consideration toward credit for prior learning.
  • Submit DD-214 (if applicable).

Graduation Requirements

  • Forty-two (42) hours of major coursework – Organizational Leadership Major
  • Nine (9) hours of General Education/Proficiency Requirements
  • Twenty-four (24) hours of IS Seminars (Natural Science, Social Science, Humanities)
  • Forty-five (45) hours of electives
  • A minimum of one hundred and twenty (120) semester hours, fifty-two (52) of which must be earned at a senior-level institution
  • G.P.A. of 2.0 to graduate, C- or better in all major courses

Residency

Students have three residency options:

  1. Any 90 hours at DominicanUniversity
  2. Any 45-89 hours at DominicanUniversity with the final 15 at DominicanUniversity; or
  3. Final 34 hours at DominicanUniversity

Note: A minimum of 21 semester hours must be done in the major as part of the residency requirement.

The following table shows the DominicanUniversity requirements/courses and their College of Lake County equivalents. This degree requires 120 semester hours. A maximum of 68 hours will transfer from the College of Lake County. DominicanUniversity will provide interested individuals with an unofficial evaluation of previous coursework. This evaluation can be completed using official or unofficial college transcripts or other records as available. This unofficial evaluation may be used initially in course selections and planning.
