Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month
Do you know that the Central Queensland region has the highest rate of Domestic and Family Violence incidents for the State?
May is “Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month” and accordingly we are going to blanket our towns with banners (in purple) to raise awareness with strong messages against Domestic and Family Violence in our community. This initiative will also coincide with an extensive media campaign through the newspapers, radio and TV. In order to help us make this project a success and reduce the incidence of domestic and family violence in our community, we are approaching and inviting organisations to sponsor / support a banner of their own to show their commitment towards raising community awareness in Rockhampton and the Livingstone Shire.
On May 17th in conjunction with a wide cross section of other government and non-government agencies, we will be working in partnership with the CQ Capras at their HOME GAME ! We will be there to display all the D & FVprevention banners around Browne Park -attending the game that night and handing out balloons, info bags, and conducting a stall - all aimed at increasing community awareness of domestic and family violence and hopefully in some small way reducing its impact on the people in our towns.

There are many statements that increase awareness of Domestic and Family Violence – attached is a sheet with some example statements on it, feel free to use these, google some or ask your colleagues about any other ideas. Pick one, go to Vistaprint and create your banner.
The cost is approx. $130 for two printed banners – which we will place in suitable highly visible locations around our communities – with your sponsorship commitment clearly printed on each banner,
Or Alternatively - Pick a statement, contact me - and together we will create your custom made banners which we will then help you order. We can invoice you at a later date if that is more convenient.

Indigenous Family Violence Prevention Forum- 7 & 8 May 2014 in Mackay
Warrior Whispering: 10th Annual Queensland Indigenous Family Violence Prevention Forum
May 7 and May 8, 2014 at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre, Alfred Street, Mackay.
Registrations are now open and people from around the state have “signed up” for this year’s Indigenous Family Violence Prevention Forum!
As you may be aware, once again numbers are capped at 100 participants for the Forum, to ensure that all voices are heard.
Eighty of the 100 places are designated for Australian Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander participants and 20 places for non-Indigenous participants who work predominantly with Aboriginal and /or Torres Strait Islander people.
The good news is that there are still places available for Indigenous representatives, and there are limited registrations available for non-Indigenous attendees at this year’s event, so please let your networks know.

The Forum aims to
•provide an opportunity for Indigenous people who are working in Indigenous family violence prevention, policy or practice across the state to highlight and celebrate the good work that is being done by Indigenous people themselves to end domestic and family violence;
•support Indigenous people to share information, knowledge and ideas about strategies and programs that could be used effectively by others;
•promote opportunities for networking across Queensland between Indigenous workers in the field of domestic and family violence prevention.

Queensland Council of Social Service and National Disability Services are partnering to host a series of events across Queensland. Over two consecutive days in each location we will be hosting a one-day measuring outcomes workshop, a half day Community of Practice event and a breakfast for QCOSS and NDS members.
We will be travelling to Cairns, Gold Coast, Hervey Bay, Rockhampton, Mackay, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Townsville and Brisbane throughout May and June 2014. For dates see below.
Measuring outcomes using Results Based Accountability™- Open to members and non-members
This one day workshop will explore the Results Based Accountability (RBA)™ framework for identifying andmeasuringoutcomes. The RBA™ framework can help you identify what you are doing, how well you are doing it, and if you are making a difference. And it encourages you to think at a population and service level.
There are many frameworks for measuring outcomes, all of which challenge community service professionals to think differently about how they plan, measure and evaluate their services. QCOSS and NDS, together with Results Leadership Group Australia, are providing these workshops to start building the sector’s capacity to understand, assess and apply outcomes measurement frameworks.
QCOSS and NDS Members-only Breakfast
This is an opportunity to network with other members in your region, share information about relevant issues affecting service providers; inform our policy positions on particular areas and to listen to the latest information about reforms impacting on the community services and disability sectors.
