Domain: Number and Operations in Base Ten (Blue)

Topic 7-11

  • Make concentration game –pair number words with number cards.
  • Write a children’s book about __, which helps others learn number words. Use numbers, words and pictures.
  • Create a board game that has players practice their number words.
  • Develop class game in which classmates have to guess a number based on clues.
  • Make a representation of a 3-digit number. Tell the number place value and draw a picture using base ten blocks to show value.
  • Create a set of trading cards for five different place values.
  • Create an advertisement for a product that has 3 different place values in its price. Write the number and its value on the back of the ad.
  • Free Choice –submit your proposal to your teacher.
  • Create an instruction card that shows how to count by 2’s and 5’s without using manipulative.
  • Make up a class game to help your classmates practice counting by 2,5, and 10.
  • Make a children’s dot to dot that uses skip counting to make 8 drawings. Use different kinds of skip counting and include an answer in your book.
  • Create a game using the 100’s chart.
  • Write a riddle that has, at least 3 clues, to guess your secret number.
  • Create an instructional card that shows how to use < , > , = . Write 3 number sentences to show example.
  • Make a concentration game –adding tens –pair number shown in base ten blocks with number card.
  • Solve math secret code (solve math problems, to represent certain letter that solves the code).
  • Design a folded quiz book with at least 5 different subtraction word problems to quiz your classmates. Don’t forget the answer key.
  • Create a schedule for your perfect day, that includes what you would do at certain times and how much time it would take.
  • Create you own survey, collect data and represent on a graph. (Additionally, predict what you think the results will be prior to collecting data)
  • Create graph (any type); come up with 3 questions for your classmates to answer. Don’t forget the answer key.

Domain: Measurement and Data (Orange)

Topics 12-14

  • Create a drawing using at least 5 circles, 3 squares, 2 triangles, and 4 stars. Use only these shapes to make your drawing. Then create your own list and follow to make an additional drawing.
  • “Count the Shapes” found on a drawing page.
  • Create a children’s book that teachers the basic shapes.
  • Construct a flipbook with riddles for each of the shapes or 3-D shapes.
  • Use pattern blocks to make a new create. Make a drawing of your creature and list all the blocks you used. Build it again using more or fewer blocks. Record the type and umber of blocks used.
  • Create picture dictionary for 5 common fractions.
  • Conduct a demonstration to show the difference between ½ and 1/3.
  • Write a children’s book that teaches readers about fractions seen everyday and how to divide objects into pieces.

Domain: Measurement (Purple)

Topics 15-16

  • Draw a maze, measure the perimeter using 2 different units of non-standard measurement.
  • Draw a maze for others students to measure the perimeter. Don’t forget the answer key.
  • Create a brochure that tells other non-standard ways that objects are measured.
  • Draw a map of your classroom. Show the distance from your desk to the door, your desk to your teacher. Use the number of steps to show distance on your map.
  • Develop a plan to figure out how to measure the distance from your classroom to the cafeteria.
  • Extend student knowledge past half hour.
  • Create a board game using clock face, so your classmate can practice telling time.
  • Make a book that shows activities that can be done in 5 minutes or less, 30 minutes, or over an hour.
