Doing Outreach Workshop Travel Bursary
Guidelines and Application Form
What is the purpose of the bursary?
The bursary is available to assist with the travel and/or accommodation expensesof IOP members attending any of the outreach workshops and where travel and/or accommodation costswould otherwise prevent attendance.
The bursary can be used for any Doing Outreach workshop during 2014 but it can only be used to cover travel/accommodation costs within the UK and Ireland. The award of a bursary is discretionary and will not necessarily meet the full costs.
Who can apply?
Applicants must be a member of the Institute of Physics and have a confirmed place at one of the outreach workshops during 2014.
Priority will be given to members who have not previously claimed a travel bursary to attend an outreach workshop. The bursary can only be used to cover travel/accommodation costs within the UK and Ireland.
How much can I apply for?
Bursaries for travel will be based on standard class, off peak rail fares (ticket or receipt must be attached to the claim form) or on a mileage rate of 45p per mile. Bursaries will be based on the most cost effective method of travel. Flights will be considered only where it can be shown that flying is the most cost-effective method of travel.
In some cases, we may consider contributing towards overnight accommodation (up to a maximum of £50 per night) where such costs would otherwise prevent you attending a workshop. The bursary cannot be use cover any other costs, for example food.
The maximum bursary will not normally be more than £125 in total.
How do I apply?
Application forms can be downloaded from You should complete the form with details of your estimated costs. Incomplete forms will not be considered.
Applications must be submitted at least two weeks before the workshop you are attending. There are limited funds available so you should apply as early as possible. Retrospective applications will not be accepted.
Please email completed application forms to .
You will normally be notified of the outcome of your applicationwithin one week of receipt of the form.
What happens if I’m successful?
