UNIT 3 CULTURE MATTERS

DOING BUSINESS FAUX PAS

SKIT DIRECTIONS

You must select one country (no two groups can have the same country) and create a skit much like the one we saw in the video. The skit can be about first time meeting to discuss doing business, interviewing for a job, dining out, dining at another’s home, gift giving, dealing with employees on the job, or greetings and good byes—OR it can be a combination. There will be two to a skit so pick your partner carefully. The skit should be about 5 total minutes in length (2 minutes faux pas, 2 minutes without faux pas).

You must create a handout to the class so they can record what they think are the faux pas as they watch your skit. Your handout will provide your Country and Cast of Characters. There must be seven faux pas so seven lines. (see sample)

The skit (done twice) must be a calamity of faux pas. Pass out worksheet, have students put their name on it.

1.  First time will present with faux pas. No explanation.

2.  Give time for class to finish writing their faux pas and what would have been proper etiquette.

3.  Collect worksheets from class.

4.  Second time through, you will stop and explain

each faux pas, what was wrong, what would have been proper etiquette.

5.  You are responsible for grading the handout (14 pts)

6.  Turn your script and class worksheets into Mrs. Hoover.
