Dog kennels instead of desks: the DPD Volunteers' Daysbegin at Aschaffenburg's animal shelter

Around ninety DPDemployees offer their services at nine Volunteers' Days in the year 2013
Aschaffenburg,17 July 2013 –For the third year in succession staff from international parcel and express service provider DPD are providing active support for Aschaffenburg'sanimal shelter.Together the volunteers freshened up the animal enclosures and the grounds of the shelter. The activity formed the start of the nine"DPD Volunteers' Days"which are planned for 2013. These voluntary efforts are part of the "DPD Initiative for People in Aschaffenburg", with which the company has been supporting social projects at its group headquarters for four years now.
"I'm very pleased that this year more than 90 of our staff are getting involved", states DPD CEO Arnold Schroven. "It means that we are assuming social responsibility together, and supporting the many people in Aschaffenburg who make voluntary contributions to good causes."
By the end of the year the DPD staff will be dedicating their efforts in support of nine social projects in Aschaffenburg. These activities range from DIY work at community service facilities to providing assistance with events. In addition to the Volunteers' Days, for the past four years the "DPD Initiative for People in Aschaffenburg"has donated an annual sum of €30,000 for the promotion of social projects.
In 2013 the following "DPD Volunteers' Days"are planned:
- Work at the Aschaffenburg animal shelter (July): repairing, cleaning and painting enclosures, aviaries and cages, together with gardening work in the grounds.
- Helping to set up the "Brotherhood of the Peoples"anniversary celebration organised by the City's Youth Ring (July)
- Active support for the Aschaffenburg/MiltenbergSummer Festival of the Children's Out-patient Hospice Service (July)
- Active support for the Open-air Concert of the Aschaffenburg'Lebenshilfe' Counselling Organisation(July)
- Removal work during the renovation of the St. Jakobus Daycare Centre(August)
- Gardening and building work on the site of the "Knochengarten" Adventure Farm(September)
- Bus excursion for young people with disabilities together with the local "All Included" integration group (September)
- Packaging of Christmas gifts for the "Shining Children's Eyes"initiative(December)
- In May DPD staff supported the "Strong as a knight"family festival organised by the Mucopolysaccharidosis Society.
