J’Ouvert Band Competition 2012

RULES

The Borough Day Festival J’ouvert officially starts at 4:00am and ends at 10:00am.

  1. Registration of Bands
  2. All J’ouvertbands must be registered by Friday 20th April 2012. Registration will not be accepted after this date. Unregistered bands will not be allowed on the parade route.
  3. Registration Fee
  4. Large Bands (> 750 players) $700.00
  5. Small Bands (< 750 players)$500.00
  6. All Bands must be registered and be approved by the Police for parading along the designated route. All bands must be clearly identifiable by means of a banner. Each band will be provided with a permit which must be displayed.
  7. Music Trucks
  8. Only 20’ Music Trucks will be allowed to accompany J’ouvert bands. Each large band will be limited to two music trucks bearing the relevant permits. A small band will be limited to one music truck bearing the relevant permits.
  9. Music truck Owners/Drivers must have the truck licensed by the licensing authority and have the music truck registered by the police to obtain a permit, which has to be displayed on the truck during the celebrations. This is a requirement under the law. Please make every effort to comply.
  10. Drinks Truck
  11. Bands will be allowed one drinks truck (not larger than 3 tonnes). This truck has to be registered by the Police and must carry a permit issued by Dock of the Bay.
  1. Route
  2. All bands must proceed along the Point Fortin Main Road, left into Guapo Cap De Ville Road, right into Bryce Road, right into Wickham Street and right into the Point Fortin Main Road, left into Guapo Cap De Ville Road, right into Richardson Street and right into Adventure Road to the Judging point.Bands will be allowed to move around the circuit once only, unless all the bands have moved off.
  3. Bandleaders please make every effort to keep your band moving along the route since time is of the essence.
  4. Marshalls will be provided to assist in the smoothflow of the bands. Bands deemed to have created delays in the flow of the bands will be disqualified.Bands must comply with the instructions of the Marshall, the announcer and the police or face disqualification.
  5. Judging
  6. Judging begins at 4:00am and ends at 10:00am
  7. The judging point will be located on Adventure Road at the Atlantic Building.
  8. The criteria for judging will be as follows

  1. Permits

Each band must approval from the Police for the for the Music Truck and the Drinks truck.These documents must subsequentlybe presented to Dock of the Bay to obtain the following permits for display.

Permits MUST be displayed on the top right hand corner of the truck’s windscreen. Permits will be distributed after 20th April 2012.

  1. Infringement of the Evacuation Route
  2. All registered bands MUST make a refundable deposit of $1,000.00 to the Point Fortin Corporation. This deposit will be refunded within one week of Borough Day once the band does not infringe the designated evacuation route.
  3. The Evacuation route of the Point Fortin Corporation is off limits to all bands. The evacuation route includes Volunteer Road, Richardson Street, Sargeant Street, George Road, Canaan Road, Techier Road, Eastern Avenue, Reid Road, Alantic Avenue and Old Point Ligoure Road, Guapo Cap de Ville Road between Richardson Street and Clifton Hill beach into Clifton Hill crescent.
  4. Adherence to this rule is imperative since these streets are vitally important to the movement of emergency response vehicles.
