Field Trip to Covered Bridge Festivals

The 45th Annual Covered Bridge Festival happens to fall on the same day as our scheduled meeting day on Saturday, September 19. Therefore, we will have a field trip to covered bridge festivals. After a short business meeting at 10:00 at the White Church, we will carpool to one or several covered bridge festivals. Held the third weekend of September, this annual tradition is the official kick-off to Washington County’s beautiful fall season. The festival features 8 historic covered bridges located throughout Washington County. The locations offer a wide-range of activities, entertainment, crafts, fall flowers and food. The eight festival locations in Washington County from which we can choose are as follows:Brownlee Bridge – McGuffey Community Park; Ebenezer Bridge – Mingo Creek County Park; Henry Bridge – Mingo Creek County Park; Hughes Bridge – Amwell Township; Krepps Bridge – Mt. Pleasant Township; McClurg Bridge – Hanover Township Park; Pine Bank Bridge – Meadowcroft; and Wyit Sprowls Bridge – East Finley Township Park.
9/11 Ceremony On Friday, September 11that 6:00 pmwe will honor those victims who were lost on 9/11, their families and military. We are honored to have Senator Camera Bartolotta, Rep. Jim Christiana, Collin Searfess with his bagpipe in attendance this year. Emma Gregan with her beautiful singing voice will sing. Joel Peterson, Pastor at the Eldersville United Methodist Church will lead us in prayer. The Boy Scout troop 1396 of Burgettstown will lower the flag. David Borodaty, Military Veteran running for Washington County Treasurer, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. We welcome our residents and surrounding residents to join us in this most important remembrance of those who were lost on a day we can never forget. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony in the White Church. If it rains service will be held in the White Church. For questions or directions call 724 947 9782.
A.D. White History Fair and Car Cruise On Saturday, September 12th there will be a History Fair and Car Cruise at the Avella Fire Department building on Route 50 in Avella. There will be informative displays about the coal mines, railroads, and towns of our area as well as a few craft displays and vendors. Judy Cooper and Peggy Strain will have a display about the historic White Church. Food will be available from St. Michael’s Church of Avella.
Nominating Committee If you get called by a member of the Nominating Committee, please give serious thought to accepting a position. Vice President Nancy Pienkosky is chairman. A slate of officers will be presented for vote at the October meeting with installation at the December dinner meeting. If you have in mind someone to nominate from the floor, please make certain that person will accept if elected.
Christmas Party The Eldersville Methodist Church has been reserved for the Christmas Party on Saturday, December 5. Please mark this date on your calendar now. More details will follow later.
