BREW TAKE TWO: HOME BREW AFFICIONADOS CAN CREATE BREWDOG’S 2016 RECIPES BEFORE THEY EVEN LAND IN BARS, WITH DIY DOG 2.0
-BrewDog releases homebrew recipes for all its 2016 beers, which are yet to even be released by the Scottish brewery
- The move follows the initial launch of DIY Dog last month where the craft brewery shared recipes of its
entire back catalogue of beers as an antidote to the rigorous walls around intellectual property maintained by
massive corporations
- The recipes will be available for beer fans to download for free from Thursday 7th April at
www.brewdog.com/diydog
Last month, BrewDog released every single one of its craft beer recipes to the public in a bid to invigorate the home brewing scene. Today, the irreverent craft beer brewery has gone one step further and unveiled the recipes for beers that are yet to be released, and are in the pipeline for the pioneering Scottish company in 2016.
The launch of the first installation of DIY Dog resulted in widespread noise in the craft beer industry and a surge in the purchase of home brewing equipment across BrewDog’s online shop and BottleDog sites. DIY Dog 2.0 will give beer enthusiasts the unprecedented chance to have a crack at brewing up beers that haven’t yet even rolled out of the Scottish brewery.
Nineteen new recipes will go live on the BrewDog website on Thursday 7th April, sticking two fingers up at stuffy mega corps who guard their intellectual property like Smaug on a pile of gold. Ace of Simcoe, part of the Ace of Hops series, which gives a single type of hops a chance to shine, is one of the recipes going live alongside beers from the recently unveiled Hammer Head series; Monk Hammer, Black Hammer, Chilli Hammer and Rye Hammer.
Other badass creations include a collaboration with Ballast Point, a brewery which sold out to Mexican drinks business, Constellation, shortly after the beer was made and has been christened ‘Ship Wreck’ as a result. Dog E will be the fifth imperial stout in a line of BrewDog anniversary beers, marking nine years of craft evangelism with barrel-aged, treacle toffee, spicy flavours bursting out of the bottle. AB;20, a tiramisu-inspired beer made from a coffee milk Imperial Stout blended with Barley Wine will be perfect for brewers with a sweet tooth, and those who prefer sours can brew up a storm with the come-back of Blitz, a super-sour spin on the Berliner Weisse style.
BrewDog co-founder, James Watt said:
“BrewDog has its roots in home brewing, which is the cornerstone of the craft beer industry. With DIY Dog - both the first installment and 2.0 - we’re rallying the community of home brewers across the globe, handing over the keys to our castle. BrewDog is owned by more than 40,000 shareholders, all passionate about craft beer. By releasing our recipes, we’re shaking up the whole home brewing scene, converting more people to craft, and sharing our legacy and our future with people who love the same thing we do. Beer.”
The first round of DIY Dog unleashed recipes for over 200 beers, from the original Punk IPA (now one of the best-selling craft beers in the UK) through to BrewDog’s newest headliner, Jet Black Heart, all scaled down to home brew volumes - five gallons or 20 litres - to inspire and support the next wave of craft brewers. Equity Punk investors who re-invested in Equity for Punks IV (which closes in two weeks) will receive a limited edition, exclusive printed copy of the beer bible.
James Watt continued:
“We stand for everything craft – we champion independent breweries and start-up companies in our bars and our bottle shops, electrifying the whole sector to overthrow bland, mass produced beer from faceless companies. Craft beer is enjoying a massive uprising at the moment, with 36 new craft breweries launching in the capital alone in the last year. We are rooting for them all the way and big beer companies should be running scared – long live the revolution!”

What is BrewDog?
Since 2007 BrewDog has been on a mission to make other people as passionate about great craft beer as we are. From the Headliner series, which includes bold, uncompromising pack leaders like the flagship Punk IPA, to the Amplified range (beer, but turned up to 11), BrewDog creates beer that blows people’s minds and has kick-started a revolution.
Cofounders James Watt and Martin Dickie shook up the business world in 2010 with the launch of pioneering crowdfunding scheme Equity for Punks, an initiative that has seen the company raise £20m over four rounds, taking more money through crowdfunding than any other on record. The funds, and the army of punk shareholders (35,000 and rising) enabled the Scottish craft brewery to scale up without selling out.
With over 40 global bar launches, export into 55 countries, and a brand new brewery in Ohio opening in August 2016, BrewDog continues to take the craft beer revolution stratospheric, whilst continuing to push the boundaries, invest in people, put the beer first, and champion other small breweries in its venues.
