Overview
In this workshop, participants will understand how to apply the Crisis Prevention Institute nonviolent crisis intervention principles with students who are on the autism spectrum, and who may require a unique approach when in crisis.
Participants will be able to:
- Strengthen understanding of all nonviolent crisis intervention training concepts
- Develop an understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) that assists in understanding why behaviors occur, how to prevent behaviors from occurring, how to appropriately intervene, and how to structure the postvention process
- Expand the CPI Crisis Development Model & Explore Adaptations for Students with ASD
- Apply & practice the additional content as it relates to nonviolent crisis intervention program content
- Problem solve a variety of scenarios that staff may encounter when supporting individuals with ASD
NOTE: To be certified/recertified, participants must have taken the 1 day Extended Basic CPI course and need to take a refresher each year.
