Locating relvant journal articles

Before you start searching you need to identify the major concepts you want to be covered in the article.

Example topic: Effects of social isolation in a rural community for support for new stage 2 diabetic.

Concepts: social isolation AND Rural community AND diabetic

More information on how to develop a search is available from the Library link in the left menu.

After determining the concepts you need to determine which sources will hold the information you require.

·  for Australian literatureuse Meditext or Family on Informit.

·  for international literature use CINAHL on EBSCOhost.

·  for public opinion on various topics use APAFT on Informit or Newsbank (provides access to a large number of Australian and International newspapers).

CINAHL - the major international nursing database.

When wesearching byCINAHL Headings, all results have been classified as being about thatsubject. This means that your search results are usually targeted to your information needs.

Keyword searching finds your search terms wherever they are mentioned in the CINAHL record for each journal article, so you generally find irrelevant material along with the articles you need.
