Summary:
TheMaintenance Managerwill provide overall management ofthe maintenance and repair of his assigned vessels, maintaining the fleet in a safe, reliable, cost effective manner. This position includes accepting a high level of accountability and displaying strong initiative for the operation and maintenance of the fleet. Effective communication, coordination and personnel interface are key to the success of this position.
Job DutiesResponsibilities:
- Lead, promote, and prioritize safety and Incident and Injury Free culture in all facets of operations and maintenance.
- Lead the respective vessel teams in the implementation and enforcement of Reliability programs.
- Monitor / control plant spending.
- Work with vessel personnel to continuously improve the condition of their vessels.
- Maintain “fleet-level” spare parts inventory.
- Perform Quality Control checks, tests, and inspections
- Work with the Division Technical Manager to schedule and coordinate repairs to best fit operations schedule and achieve the “best value” with all repairs.
- Work with Wear Parts Manager
- Enforce vessel standards set by GLDD
- Work with the purchasing department to acquire all services and materials needed to maintain the fleet.
- Attend vessel repair periods working with the Dry-dock team as a technical rep for the mechanical aspects of repairs. Assist in writing specs and settling invoices for these repairs.
- Visit dredges and job sites to work with the onboard personnel to generate and prioritize crew work lists and future repair / upgrade lists.
Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license.
- Excellent mechanical aptitude. Understanding of systems (electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, etc.)
- Strong ability to read and understand mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic drawings and schematics.
- Ability to manage repairs and modifications on multiple systems and equipment, requires understanding of how things operate and “best value” logical thinking.
- Independent performer, proactive and demonstrates significant personnel management, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Self-motivated – confident and comfortable building relationships with all levels of Great Lakes crew, staff and management
- Excellent communications and organizing skills –in a fast paced multi-task work environment
- Exhibits excellent written and oral communication skills, with members of Senior
- Management, staff, and crew
- PC skills required – MS Outlook, MS Office suite
Preferences
- Maritime BS Degree or higher
- Five or more years of relevant work experience
- Past or current USCG Licensure in Engineering Department
