Element: Digital_Object

Definition: Wrapper element for basic information about the digital object. There are four sub

elements:

  1. Object_Name
  2. Object_Format
  3. Copyright_Status
  4. Publication_Status

Sub elements:

Object_Name: Name of the digital object

Object_Format: Format of the digital object. Four enumerated values enforced by

BCMD schema:

  • Audio
  • Text
  • Image
  • Video

Copyright_Status: Indicates copyright status for the resource. Three enumerated

values enforced by the BCMD schema:

  • Copyrighted
  • Public Domain
  • Unknown

Publication_Status: Indicates publication status for the resource. Three

enumerated values enforced by the BCMD schema:

  • Published
  • Unpublished
  • Unknown

Element: Copyright

Definition: Wrapper element for copyright related information for the resource.

There are two sub elements that have sub elements within them:

  1. Publication
  2. Creation

Sub elements:

Publication: Wrapper element for publication information regarding

resource. Includes six sub elements. Use only for published works.

Sub elements:

  • Publisher: Name of publisher
  • Country_of_Publisher: Location of publisher
  • Year_Published: Date of publication
  • Year_Copyrighted: Copyright date
  • Copyright_Renewal: Date of copyright renewal
  • Notes: General notes about publisher

Creation: Wrapper element for information about the creation of the

resource. Includes four sub elements. Use mostly for unpublished materials, but can be used for published materials if there is information about the creation of the resource.

Sub elements:

  • Creator: Person or Corporation

1) Person

  • Name
  • Birth Date
  • Death Date

2) Corporation

  • Name
  • Year_Creation: Year resource was created
  • Country_Creation: Country resource was created in
  • Notes: General notes about creation

Element: Rights holder

Definition: Wrapper element for rights holder information for the resource. There

are 8 sub elements with some having sub elements of their own:

  1. Name
  2. Address
  3. Phone
  4. Fax
  5. Email
  6. Web site
  7. Contact
  8. Notes

Sub elements:

Name: Name of rights holder

Address: Street, City, State, Country, and Zip Code information

Sub elements:

  • Street
  • City
  • State
  • Country
  • Zip Code

Phone: Phone number of rights holder

Fax: Fax number of rights holder

Email: Email address of rights holder

Web site: Website URL of rights holder

Contact: Name of contact person or department

Notes: General notes about rights holder

Element: Permissions

Definition: Wrapper element for permissions related information for the resource.

There are five sub elements:

  1. Permission_Sought
  2. Permission_Type
  3. Person_Seeking_Permission
  4. Date_Permission_Sought
  5. Date_Permission_Received

Sub elements:

Permission_Sought: Contains two enumerated permission sought values

enforced by BCMD schema:

  • yes
  • no

Permission_Type: Contains nine enumerated permission type values enforced by

BCMD schema:

  • upd (unrestricted public domain)
  • ucg (unrestricted copyright granted)
  • rbrlr (restricted Baylor University Libraries review low risk)
  • rbrhr (restricted Baylor University Libraries review high risk)
  • rcpns (restricted copyrighted permission not sought)
  • rcpg (restricted copyrighted permission granted)
  • rcpd (restricted copyrighted permission denied)
  • rcpsna (restricted copyrighted permission sought no answer)
  • rnci (restricted non copyright issue)

Person_Seeking_Permission: Contains the name of the person

seeking permission.

Date_Permission_Sought: Contains the month, day, and year that

the permission was sought.

Date_Notification_Received: Contains the month, day, and year

that the copyright notification was received whether it was granted or denied.
