NO. R-76. JOINT RESOLUTION in memory of Frances StacY.

Offered by: Representatives Miller of Shaftsbury, Morrissey of Bennington, Colvin of Bennington, Freed of Dorset, Hoag of Woodford, Krawczyk of Bennington, Livingston of Manchester, Molloy of Arlington, Palmer of Pownal and Pembroke of Bennington.

Whereas, Frances Stacy was a native of Manchester and resided in Shaftsbury for many decades, and

Whereas, she had been a local correspondent for the Bennington Banner, and

Whereas, Frances Stacy subsequently worked on the staff of both the Bennington and Shaftsbury school systems, and, in her later years, she was employed in various positions for the town, and

Whereas, Frances Stacy was one of Shaftsbury’s most busily engaged volunteers and civic supporters whose membership and presence in a variety of organizations was always welcomed and most appreciated, and

Whereas, she was the unofficial bookkeeper for the Mattison Historical Society, a role she also performed for the Shaftsbury United Methodist Church where she worshiped regularly, and

Whereas, for nearly half a century, Frances Stacy was a Fresh Air Fund host each summer, providing an urban child with the opportunity to spend a summer in a more peaceful rural environment, and

Whereas, she was a founding member of the Shaftsbury Fire Department Auxiliary, and

Whereas, she helped the homebound as a Meals on Wheels volunteer, and

Whereas, her strong Christian faith was evident in her volunteer service to others in the community, for whom she set an excellent example, and

Whereas, she not only professed her faith but continuously lived it, and

Whereas, throughout her life she persevered in her efforts to make Shaftsbury a better place to live, and

Whereas, the citizens of Shaftsbury knew that they had a very special neighbor and friend in Frances Stacy, and

Whereas, she was married for nearly 58 years to Fred Stacy, until his recent death, and they had two sons, Carl and Terry, and four grandchildren, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly extends its condolences to the family of Frances Stacy, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Terry Stacy in Shaftsbury, Carl Stacy in Toronto, Ontario and the Reverend Deborah Trolenberg at the First United Methodist Church in Shaftsbury.
