TITLE OF JOB: Specialist Learning Partner
NAME:
1PURPOSE OF YOUR JOB
To support the Senior Learning Partner in addressing the needs of a named pupil, whose needs are complex and who requires an entirely bespoke package for her to be able to learn effectively.
To ensure that she is able to become a valued and integrated member of the school community, over time.
To support her development in terms of her academic progress, her social interactions and her ability to be independent in her future choices.
To support teachers in ensuring that she can learn well and that she is able to enjoy a positive experience of learning.
2.MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Support the Senior Learning Partner in creating an environment and the appropriate resources to provide a bespoke package that is additional to or different from that accessed by all pupils
- Assist with safe travelling for the named pupil.
- Work in collaboration with teaching/senior staff and within agreed systems
- Take an active role in the production/implementation of support/mentoring plans for the identified pupil
- Establish productive working relationships with the pupil, acting as a positive role model and setting high expectations
- Challenge and motivate the pupil, promote and reinforce self esteem
- Provide feedback to her in relation to progress, achievement, behaviour, attendance etc.
- Support the pupil’s access to learning using appropriate strategies, resources etc.
- Work with other staff in planning, evaluating and adjusting learning activities as appropriate
- Assist in monitoring and evaluating her responses and progress against support plans through observation and planned recording
- Assist in the development and implementation of appropriate strategies
- Assist with routine tests/examinations where necessary
- Implement agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to her responses/needs
- Actively seek and utilise information from a wide variety of sources to provide support for the pupil to broaden and enrich her learning
- Support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop her competence and independence in its use
- Promote good behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with policy and encourage her to take responsibility for her own behaviour
- Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to; child protection, health, safety, and security, confidentiality, and data protection, reporting all concerns to line manager or SLT as appropriate
- Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school
- Attend and participate in regular meetings
- Participate in training and other learning activities as required
- Recognise own strengths and areas of expertise and use these to advise and support others

4.SUPERVISION
The postholder will work under the supervision of the SENCO and Senior Learning Partner.
5.JOB CONTEXT
The postholder will work within the Bridge and Steps team and in close consultation with the Interventions Learning Leader. She will be part of the year group to which the pupil belongs.
6.PHYSICAL EFFORT
Practices and policies are in place to meet the needs of our pupils, including their emotional and behavioural needs.
7.WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The postholder will be based in a dedicated room, close to The Bridge and Steps. They will assist in creating a stimulating and creative environment, which meets the needs of the pupil and is a pleasant place to learn. They will also work in other areas of the school, as required for learning. The working environment will also involve travelling by car with the pupil and being out in the community, as necessary.
8.ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The postholder is required to contribute to and support the overall aims and ethos of the school. All staff are required to participate in training and other learning activities, and in performance management and development as required by the school’s policies and procedures
It is not always possible to define completely the duties and responsibilities attached to posts and some variations may be necessary from time to time.
This post is linked to a named pupil. If the pupil leaves the school, the postholder will be offered another Learning Partner role within school.
