Warm Up: 5 mins
Today MegaBugs we are going on an exciting adventure, but before we do we need to warm up, let’s put some music on and get ready:
As you play the music you should do: Hello Sun, Hello Earth, Roadrunner (beep beep), snake (hiss) Dog (woof) Hello Earth, Hello Sun.
Repeat this three times for a high energy warm up.
Well done, I think we are ready now!
Adventure: 22 mins
Let’s explore the theme of Less is More!
It’s really important we don’t waste food, paper or unnecessary goods.
So let’s make a sandwich that we know we’d like to eat with food that is good for us! (Encourage children to suggest healthy food they like to eat).
Let’s think about how we can share more and things that we could recycle? (explain the term) Our school books (book could be seated forward bend leaning to toes, opening the book – stretching backwards to lying flat) when finished with, we could place it in the recycle bin. Our school uniform when it gets too small, we could give it to someone smaller than us!
Let’s create an efficient home! (House)
Let’s start at the hall door (Gate), let’s always close doors behind us to save on heat!
Let’s only run water when we need it (Volcano action with water noises).
Let’s pick up rubbish (forward bend up and down a few times!)
We could make things out of natural (explain) products. Like chopping wood for fuel or to make toys!
During the day don’t turn on lights but open the windows and welcome the sun light into the house (do a fun series of Sun salutations!)
Can we create Habitats?
The world has got to be a healthy place for animals as well as people, so we could start by planting something in our garden like a seed Child that grows into a Tree! What animals could live in our garden happily?
Baby birds!
Mummy and Daddy birds (bird of paradise and eagle to show variation).
Foxes (downward Dog).
Frogs if we had a pond!
Butterflies in the flower beds.
Ants (we could do some marching!).
On the Move!
Instead of taking the car Bumpy Truck, we could Cycle! We could go on our scooters Surfer; if we lived in Norway or Switzerland we could even ski! If we lived by the river we could Row, or we could get in a Boat and sail (do a gentle breathing exercise to encourage the idea of wind). We could go by hot air balloon! Or simply walk gently!
Relaxation and Visualisation: 5 mins
Let’s lay back and close our eyes and take time to think about what we have learnt on our journey today and how we have to look after the planet we live on.
Suggested follow on Games and Activities: 10 mins
Game: In the river and out of the river:
Children have to jump in and out of the pretend river, on the instructions from the teacher.
The teacher must use the words “in the river” or “out of the river”, but if the teacher just says in or out and the children move, they lose a life.
The game can be sped up or slowed down and creates a lot of enthusiasm.
