Congratulations on deciding to take AP Psychology (APP)! J These summer assignments are intended to ensure that you are prepared for this advanced course with the necessary background knowledge and skills. Put forth your best effort in completing the assignments so you can start off the year on the best possible foot. In addition to providing you with foundational understanding and skills, the assignments will be your first grades in AP Psychology. These assignments are internet-based. If you do not have internet access at home please talk to me BEFORE June 20th (aka - the last day of school) to make alternate arrangements to complete the summer assignments.

AP Psychology (APP) Summer Assignments

PART I – EDMODO
Both you and a parent/guardian need to read the attached Edmodo letter. Your parent must approve your use of Edmodo before you complete the steps below!
1. DUE by MONDAY, JUNE 17th - Register for Edmodo and sign up for notifications (instructions are on the back of this handout).
2. DUE by MONDAY, JULY 1st - Post a personal introduction on Edmodo (instructions are on the back of this handout).


PART II – PSYCHOLOGY in EVERYDAY LIFE Personal Essay
DUE ON OR BEFORE WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4th – instructions for this assignment are posted on Edmodo. If you do not have internet access and need a hard copy of this assignment please see Ms. Justice BEFORE school ends on June 20th .


PART III – PSYCHOLOGY & CURRENT EVENTS
DUE ON OR BEFORE WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4th – Locate 3 news articles that connect to 3 different APP units listed below. The articles must be from January – August 2013. Complete a current events write-up for each article that includes three paragraphs:

Paragraph 1: Source information (title, author, date, and source of the article); explain which APP unit the article is connected to.
Paragraph 2: Summary of the main idea(s) of the article
Paragraph 3: Your reaction to the article, and any questions raised by the article that you’d like to know more about

NOTE: The original article MUST be attached to the write-up. If the write-ups are submitted via Edmodo, a link to the original article should be included. If the write-ups are submitted via hard copy, the original article should be attached. (If cut from a magazine or newspaper, neatly paste or tape the article to a sheet of paper and staple to the write-up.)

Go to www.edmodo.com. In the sign up box click “I’m a student”

(Note: if you already have an Edmodo account,
log in and click “Join” on the left side of the home screen.
This will allow you to enter the Group Code: 2im12q
to join the new group.)

In the Student Sign Up box that pops up, type in

the following Group Code: 2im12q

Choose a username (no spaces or funny characters) and a password that you will remember AND that are school appropriate. (I recommend your current BHS ID # & password)

You do not need to provide your e-mail address (it is optional)

Type in your first name and last name (this is what shows up on your profile & what I’ll use to identify you on the site)


Click “Sign up”

NOTIFICATIONS: At the top right of the page click Account and choose Settings. Here you can upload a profile photo, Edit personal information, and sign up for Email &/or text updates. If you have an e-mail account or a cell phone that can receive text messages (without incurring charges), sign up for notifications under the Email and Text Updates tab. Any time I post new information on Edmodo you will receive a notification via e-mail or text. This will enable you to stay up to date on all that is happening with the course over the summer and throughout the school year. If you have a smart phone or iPod you can also download the free Edmodo app J

PERSONAL INTRODUCTION: On the main wall type a note (type in the box that says “type your note here”).
In your introduction tell me about yourself and why you chose to take this class.
(approx. 2 paragraphs) You can type your introduction directly in this box or type
it in a Word document and attach the
Word file by clicking the file icon.

To send your post type in the box that says “send to.” To send it to Ms. Justice only type in Ms. Justice.
To send it to the entire class, type in BHS AP Psych 2013-2014.
Click send. Your post will show up on your
wall and on the wall(s) of those you sent it to J
