COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Students will investigate various topics in both descriptive and inferential statistics including measure of central tendency and spread, graphical analysis of data, probability, random sampling, correlation and regression, hypothesis testing and confidence intervals. An approved graphing calculator is required (TI-84 will be issued if you do not have one). A computer software package (Minitab) is incorporated into the course. 3 credit hours.
STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:
After successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Be familiar with the vocabulary and fundamental tools of statistics.
2. Be aware of the many graphical and numerical representations of data.
3. Understand the basics of probability theory.
4. Have a knowledge of how technology is used in statistics.
EVALUATION OF YOUR WORK:Homework & Labs (30%) – Approximately one homework assignment per week will be collected and graded. Most labs will use the Minitab software, but may also include other assignments different from typical homework problems such as group problem solving.
Quizzes & Tests (60%) – Quizzes and tests will be announced. Tests will be cumulative.
Personal Responsibility (10%) – You will need to keep a notebook with your class notes, homework, and graded quizzes/tests with corrections. This will be collected at the end of each marking period and randomly checked for completeness. This part of your grade will include your absences. / GRADING POLICY:

Final Grade: Each of the four quarters and your final exam grade will contribute 20% to your final grade.
ATTENDANCE POLICY: This class will follow the ECS Comprehensive Attendance Policy which allows one day per day of absence, upon returning to school to complete missed work without penalty. At this level, it is expected that you will be in class every day, prepared, and ready to learn!
CHEATING POLICY: Academic integrity is expected at all times. Any cheating on any assignment, project, quiz, or exam will automatically result in a zero for that assignment. Repeated offenses may result in additional consequences beyond the zero.
