BRUIN BASEBALL

CODE OF CONDUCT

Practices

All players are expected to attend all practices.

If a player has an unexcused absence, they will serve a one game suspension.

If a player has a second unexcused practice, they will serve a three game suspension.

A third unexcused absence will result in expulsion from the baseball program.

Excused absences include doctor’s appointment (a note from doctor must be provided), school-related (field trip, concert, etc…) and family emergency. Missing practices to attend a Blazers game, work, and/or shopping are some examples of unexcused absences. All absences will be determined excused or unexcused by the CHS Baseball Coaching Staff.

Players late to practice will not be allowed to practice, unless excused by Head Coach.

Being late to practice will result in an unexcused absence.

All players must have the following practice equipment in order to be eligible to practice:

A program approved hat (prefer CHS Baseball hat)

Baseball mitt

Baseball pants or cotton sweatpants

Long sleeve undershirt

Baseball cleats (prefer metal spikes)

*Any player that does not have one of the items above will not be allowed to practice, and therefore, will be marked as an unexcused absence.

The following are the expectations of players at each and every practice and game:

Great work ethic and hustle Communicating in a positive, respectful manner

Being coachable with instruction Assisting team with cleanup

Being on time (10 minutes early) Stay on task at all times; avoid being disruptive

Being respectful to coaches/teammates Making decisions that are best for the team

Demonstrate teamwork and support for teammates

*Players that fail to demonstrate the above expectations will be at risk of being removed from practice, and will be deemed as an unexcused absence.

HAZING, IMTIMIDATION, BULLYING AND HARASSMENT WILL NOT BE TOLERATED IN THE CHS BASEBALL PROGRAM AND, UPON VERDICT, MAY RESULT IN EXPULSION FROM THE

CHS BASEBALL PROGRAM

Any player accused of such will be allowed a due process hearing with Head Coach, Athletic Director, player and parent present. Collection of facts, witness/victim statements and other pertinent information will be provided and allowed at the hearing.

If at any time a player feels they have been treated unfairly or unjust, it is encouraged to conference with the Head Coach immediately in order to find a solution. If the Head Coach is the accused party, contact the Athletic Director to schedule a conference to find a solution.

Games

Lettering policy is the sole discretion of the CHS Head Baseball Coach.

All players are expected to stay actively involved in the game from start to finish. Visiting the concession stand, sitting in the bleachers, leaving the dugout without permission, conversing with parents/fans, and using a cell phone are some examples of players not staying actively involved in the game.

Players are expected to act appropriately in representing CHS as well as our community in all games. Players engaging in inappropriate behavior towards fans, opponents, and/or game officials will not be tolerated and will result in consequences determined by the CHS Baseball Coaching Staff. Inappropriate behavior, because of its ambiguity, will be determined by the CHS Baseball Coaching Staff.

For all away games, parents MUST sign in person, with a coaching staff member, that their son will be riding home with them. At no time is it allowed to have another parent or family friend sign a player out or take a player home with them. Exceptions include allowing parents to pre-arrange travel with the Head Coach, but it must be done in person. Any player that leaves a game with anyone other than a parent may be suspended or expelled from the baseball program, unless pre-arranged.

Parents are encouraged to allow players to be coached during games, free from parental conflict. Parents are discouraged from coaching their sons during games to avoid conflict, confusion and stress on players. And as such, if a violation of this rule occurs, the player will be immediately removed from participation in games. If the conduct continues, suspension and possibly expulsion from the program is possible.

At each and every practice and game, the Bruin Baseball Coaching Staff will conduct drills, schemes and gameplay with the player’s safety at the forefront. At no time will a player be asked to demonstrate an activity that could be deemed unsafe or negligent. The same is asked of all players in order to keep them as safe and as competitive as possible.

Any player found to be negligent in their participation will be removed from such baseball activity, whether practice or gameplay. Coaches will be responsible for facilitating drills and activities that are safe, such as sliding in to bases, as well as manage pitch counts for pitchers on a regular basis.

Academic/Social

All players in the Bruin Baseball program are expected to be leaders in the classroom, in the school environment, and within the community. The following are the expectations we have of all of our players:

1)  C or better grade in all classes

a.  If a players has a D grade, they will be put on one week probation. During this probation they can still practice and play in games. At the end of the one week probation, if the grade has not improved above a C, they will not be allowed to practice or play in games until the player delivers a signed note from the teacher stating the player has achieved a C or better grade.

b.  If a player has an F grade, they will no longer be eligible for practices or games. If that grade is lower than a C, the player is put on one week probation, as explained above.

c.  All players enrolled in a PE class must complete daily expectations or they will not practice that day. Any missed practice will be unexcused.

2)  Attend all classes daily

a.  If a player misses a class and it is deemed unexcused, the player will be deemed unexcused from practice for that day. Excused absences occur when a player misses class for a doctor’s appointment, school-related activity, or a family emergency. Family emergencies must be explained in a conference setting with Head Coach, player, and parent present.

b.  If a player is late to class, extra field work will be done. If the issue continues, game suspension and possibly expulsion from the program may occur.

3)  Make good decisions as a member of our community

a.  Any player found to have engaged in illegal activities, such as alcohol/drug use or other criminal offenses will be expelled from the Bruin Baseball program. It is the philosophy of the Bruin Baseball program to instill discipline and young men of character in our program. An abuse of that philosophy shows a lack of commitment, discipline and respect for the baseball program.

By signing this Bruin Baseball Code of Conduct, my parent(s) and I agreed to the rules set forth in order to be a member of the CHS Bruin Baseball program. We understand that the rules set forth are done so with my best intentions, growth and safety in mind. We also understand that there may be instances not described in this Code of Conduct, and put our good faith in the Bruin Baseball Coaching Staff to analyze and decide its definition.
