Happy Summer Parents,
I am sorry to say that summer is coming to an end, however I am excited to bring in the 2016-2017 school year! In the last 6 weeks that we have had a chance to prepare, all the classrooms and the MPR have had a deep cleaning, we had a chance to reorganize and a few teachers have been able to move classrooms. As August 17 approaches we will be ready to teach your children the lessons they need to succeed in their life and grade level.
Many parents have had some questions on what they can do to help prepare their children for the upcoming year. As summer closes, try and get them back into the routine of school. Have them start reading and doing some math worksheets. Many of these worksheets are free on-line at http://www.scholastic.com/parents/. Try and give them the head start they need to succeed. As far as supplies, please refer to the parents section of our website (nufferelementary.org).
In a few short months our 5th graders get a chance to be the pioneers for our school as they have the opportunity to embark on a week-long science camp. These lucky 5th graders get to spend 5 days and 4 nights in Crestline, CA learning science at Thousand Pines Outdoor School. I am very excited for these students as they get a chance to experience science first hand. I am also excited to know that our teachers get to work with Guillermo Mendieta on Pictorial Math and bring this exciting concept to our students. As a special treat to Nuffer Elementary, our wonderful teachers will also get training in Swun Math. It is so great to know that all of these exciting changes will be here to the benefit of our students.
As you receive your first day packets, please read over the information and send back the agreement letter as soon as possible. We hope you enjoyed your summer break and we look forward to seeing everyone back.
Happy New Year,
