Hamish Meets Coco
One Sunday morning, Hamish
the Haggis sat in his burrow
which was hidden deep in the
Highlands. He was sitting
watching the T.V. and thinking
about his family, in particular
his cousin Coco.
Hamish decided to visit Coco
in France, but knew France was
very, very far away and there
was another problem,
Hamish wasn’t sure how to get
to there.
The little haggis thought and
thought. He could possibly walk
to France, but he couldn’t walk
on water.
He could swim, but he wasn’t
that good a swimmer!
He could row, but then his arms
would get too sore.
Then Hamish remembered that
he could fly. He could just fly
to France. Then he could see
his dear, dear, dear, dear, dear
cousin Coco.
Hamish was now flying over
the sea towards France.
He could see his reflection
on the water and all the
different coloured fish below
him were swimming at the
same speed as he was flying.
In the distance the sun was
setting and the sky was now
a brilliant shade of orange.
Within no time at all he
landed in France.
But, the sky was now very
black, and clouds were starting
to appear and Hamish heard
thunder.
Then rain was pouring down
and Hamish was getting wetter
and wetter. He needed some
shelter.
Hamish saw a boat that had
been covered up and he decided
to shelter in the it.
After waiting there for half an hour,
the scared wee haggis thought he
should just spend the night in the
boat. Hamish searched further and
found some drawers.
He grabbed onto the handle
of the first one and pulled
himself up.
Then he grabbed the second
drawer handle and pulled
himself up. But at that moment
in ran a rather unfriendly
looking dog. The dog showed
his teeth which were shining
white that would blind a man
and could cut through fog.
The dog let out a rather loud
bark and then ran towards
Hamish. The dog was picking
up speed and Hamish tried to
jump up one more drawer.
But he was too late, the dog
had grabbed his cape in its
teeth. Hamish held onto the
handle as the dog tried to
pull him away.
He was holding
on so tightly to the handle
that when the dog tried to
pull, the drawer started to open.
The drawer was now
open fully and the dog was still
trying to attack Hamish, but
because he was holding on so
tightly something had to give
and Hamish heard a…
…RIP…
Hamish’s cape had ripped in two!
Hamish quickly pulled himself up
into the drawer and then started
to bury himself in the covers.
After the tragedy of ripping his
cape, Hamish sat under the covers
and then fell fast asleep.
ZZZzzzzzzzz
Hamish woke up the next morning
and heard all the birds tweeting
outside.
The rain had stopped whilst
he was sleeping. He pulled back
his dish towel cover and saw
that the dog was lying on the
floor sound asleep, so he jumped
down quietly and sneaked past the dog and
ran out of the boat.
Hamish jumped onto the dock
and walked into town.
He saw a blue cockerel wearing
a kilt. He was holding a basket
full of fruit and vegetables.
Hamish realised that this was
his cousin Coco.
He ran over shouting “Coco,
Coco, it’s me your cousin.”
Coco turned round and smiled
when he saw Hamish.
He waved and said “Salut ‘Hamish.”
Over the next hour Hamish and
Coco talked and talked. Hamish
learned all Coco’s favourite things.
His favourite colours were: blue,
white and red.
His favourite food was French Fries.
And his favourite hobby was football.
Hamish learned so much about his cousin
Coco that day, but he had to go home for dinner.
So Coco helped him fix his cape
and bid Hamish farewell.
‘Au revoir, Hamish. A bientöt!
Bye, bye Coco. It was great to see you!
And Hamish flew back to Scotland.
A very happy little haggis!
