GARDENING / HORTICULTURAL SKILLS

This is a 4 week course, 4.5 hours per session in which you will cover:

Which flowers, fruit and vegetables you can grow in a garden, Identifying weeds and how to control them,

How to propagate plants,

Preparing an area outside to grow plants outdoors,

How to grow and care for plants.

Cost £56.50 (plus £15.00) or £10.00 if on benefits

Sowing and growing techniques

(under the Open Awards Qualification)

This is a 4 week course, 4.5 hours per session in which you will cover:

How to grow plants a number of different ways, including from seeds and cuttings and how to take care of them once you have grown them

Cost £56.50 (plus £15.00) or £10.00 if on benefits

Start Thursday 7th June for 4 weeks

Starting a gardening business

17th May 2018 9.30—2.00 for 2 weeks

This course will help you to identify what you need to think about when contemplating starting your own business including advertising, basic book keeping, possible problems and advantages of working for yourself.

Gardening as a volunteer

Thursday 5th July 2018 9.30-2.00 for 2 weeks

This course will explain why people volunteer and what it can do for you, what you should expect in return and to empower you to find somewhere you could approach for volunteering.

Cost £28.50 or £5.00 if on benefits

Who are these courses for? The aims of the courses are to introduce you to new concepts, skills and techniques. Each course is aimed at absolute beginners and those who want to develop their existing skills and knowledge.

What do I need to bring?

An A4 notepad and file to keep handouts and other course materials. You will be helped todevelop a folder and portfolio for future reference.

What do I get at the end of the course?

You will receive a certificate acknowledging your success at achieving the course outcomes and that you have participated in a structured and recognised course.

What progression opportunities are available after the course is finished?

You can progress onto other courses in the series. These will expand on the knowledge and skills you have previously gained and help you develop further. For more information please see the tutor.
