Life is busy but I am having fun and you are keeping me on track. I did run and finish my Silicon Valley Marathon. Your kindness, generosity, and support are highly appreciated. Now to the club activities:

  • Niles Rotarians took part in the “END POLIO NOW WALK” in San Francisco on October 24, 2010. It was a rainy day but that did not stop thousands of Rotarians from walking and supporting the End Polio Now campaign. Niles Rotarian Mary Lynn Pelican was there to take photos with RI President Ray Klinginsmith. Thank you Mary Lynn.
  • Many Niles Rotarians attended the 2010 Avenues of Service meeting at the Double Tree Hotel in San Jose. This was a great event, and provided Niles Rotarians a great opportunity to interact with District Leadership and learn about various International projects that our District is involved in supporting. Niles Rotary’s International Project “Hogan mi Familia” children’s orphanage in Chile was promoted during the Foundation presentation at the meeting. I want to thank Almos Adorjan in taking the lead for this great International Project.
  • Our Halloween Party at the Saddle Rack was a great success. I would like to thank our social chair Gary Robinson and Bob Hagg for this great event.
  • On Make-a-Difference day, October 23, 2010, Niles Rotarians went back to Niles Community Park to replace wood on the path leading to the fishing dock at the Niles Community Park. Niles Rotarians also planted many trees, picked up the trash, and removed bamboo, etc. I was personally complimented by Niles residents for our community services and one of the Niles residents said, “Thank you Niles Rotarians, we love you for what you do for our Community.” Thanks to Bob Highbaugh, Chuck Canada, and Steve Landon for leading the project, and to Bob Hagg for a great breakfast burrito and hamburgers for lunch. This I call building and serving community. Thank you Niles Rotarians, you are great!!
  • Chuck Canada, Bob Highbaugh, and Steve Landon along with other Niles Rotarians are organizing various community projects. Our next project is on November 20, 2010 at Niles Community Park. This will include picking up the garbage from the lake, finishing unfinished deck railing work, removing stands of bamboo, etc. Please get involved and take an active part in these hands-on community projects. Furthermore, if you know of any community project that interests you, please take a lead. Please call me or Chuck Canada, and together we can make it happen.

My goal this year is to increase membership by about 10 percent. Please help me achieve this goal. Please invite a friend, co-worker, or community leader to our lunch meeting and introduce them to Rotary. My fellow Niles Rotarians we can serve mankind better if we are Bigger, Better and Bolder.

REMEMBER FOR THIS YEAR OUR CLUB THEME is “END POLIO NOW.”

Please donate and help “END POLIO NOW.”

I thank you for your support and fellowship.

Rakesh
