Junior Year Timeline

Begin the college selection process. Attend college fairs and parent and student meetings, to learn as much as you can about this complex process.

SEPTEMBER

Maintain your academic record.

  • Make sure you are meeting NCAA requirements if you want play sports in college. ()

Visit with college reps as they come to RHS this fall. Listen to announcements and check the college board by the cafeteria for dates.

OCTOBER

  • Take the PSAT test to practice your standardize test taking skills and to get an idea where your scores will fall on the ACT/SAT.

NOVEMBER

Junior year grades are very important in the college admission process. Stay on top of

your grades this year. They could determine which colleges you are accepted to and

the amount of scholarship money you might receive.

  • Begin to do in depth research on how to finance college as a family.

DECEMBER

  • Register now for the ACT. Plan to take it somewhere between the middle-end of your jr. year and at least one more time in the beginning of your sr. year
  • Attend the RhodesState Career Day (field trip during the day)

JANUARY

Begin to make a preliminary list of colleges you would like to investigate further.

FEBRUARY

Be sure to challenge yourself academically when scheduling for your senior year.

Colleges are increasing the amount of weight they give to your senior course schedule

in the college admission process. You will meet individually with a counselor to

discuss your senior schedule.

  • Check the requirements to see if you have met the Honors Diploma criteria.
  • You will need to do further investigation into your career choices and begin researching

the colleges offering your majors.

  • Make sure you are registered to take the ACT (The ACT is accepted by all college in Ohio. If you plan to go out of state, check the college’s website and see what standardized test they require you to take.)
  • Boys and GirlsState interviews for selection to attend Boys or GirlsState in the summer.

MARCH

  • Attend HancockCountyCollege Night at FindlayHigh School
  • Write, telephone, or use the internet to request information from colleges on your list.
  • VISIT colleges! A college can appear to be the perfect match for you, but until you visit you will not know for sure. You may schedule your visit online. If you do so, please print out the page and bring that to the guidance office so the proper paperwork can be filled out.
  • Continue to evaluate your college list. Add / drop schools as they gain or lose your interest.
  • Look into summer academic or enrichment programs. Colleges love to see students

using their knowledge and developing skills and interests.

MAY

Visit colleges and work on your college list.

JUNE

Take ACT if you have not already done so.

  • If you are an athlete and plan to play sports in college, complete the NCAA

Clearinghouse form ().

JULY/AUGUST

  • Visit colleges and continue to refine your list.
  • Begin preparing for the application process. Draft application essays, collect writing

samples, and assemble portfolios or audition tapes.

  • If you are planning to play sports in college, contact coaches at the schools which

interest you.

  • Begin to look into scholarships at colleges and others that are out there. Some of the

. Complete scholarship applications as you find them.
