The Thirty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time
Malachi 1:14b-2:2b, 8-10: In the name of the Lord of hosts the prophet asked, “Have we not all the one father? Has not the one God created us? Why then do we break faith with one another, violating the covenant of our fathers?”
Psalm 131:1, 2, 3: “In you, Lord, I have found my peace.”
1 Thessalonians 2:7b-9, 13: Paul gave thanks to God and praised the Thessalonians for receiving the gospel as God’s word at work in all who believe. He said, ”We were gentle among you, as a nursing mother cares for her children.”
Matthew 23:1-12: Jesus warned the crowds and disciples not to show off but to practice the faith humbly before God: “The greatest among you must be your servant.”

~ FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK ~
Thirtieth Sunday of Ordinary Time
God is love. God is total love. God is unconditional love. Without God, love cannot be understood, for love would not exist. As God’s children, we are called to be like God, with love as the center—the basic—of our lives. As His children, we are to love God as He loves us: with all our hearts, souls and minds. Like God, we are to love our neighbor—totally and unconditionally—as He does, even if this means the giving up of our lives as Jesus gave up His life us. Love is not a commodity that is bought and sold. Love is the person of the Triune God who seeks to draw us in by His love and by our response to His love. True love: it involves personal death, but it also includes divine resurrection. If we commit ourselves to love on earth, we will be invited to dwell in love in heaven.
I remind you that this Wednesday, November 1st, is the Solemnity of All Saints, a Holy Day of Obligation. Masses to fulfill your obligation will be celebrated:
Tuesday, October 31st at 7:00 p.m.-St. Stephen Church
Wednesday, November 1st at 8:20 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.-Holy Rosary Church.
Be mindful that it is a serious sin to deliberately neglect the obligation to attend Mass on this day.
In observation of the Holy Day, the Parish Offices will be closed.
Thursday, November 2nd, is the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed. This day is not a Holy Day of Obligation. The schedule of Masses for this day is:
7:30 a.m.-Holy Rosary Church
5:30 p.m.-St. Stephen Church.
A Prayer for the Faithful Departed and all those who have died will be offered in the St. Stephen Cemetery at 5:15 p.m.
All Souls’ envelopes were included with your set of contribution envelopes last month. These may be used to enroll those who have died into our parishes’ Purgatorial Society. A Mass is offered once a week, throughout the year, for those enrolled in this society.
Thank you to those of you who have made a gift or a pledge to this year’s Catholic Stewardship Appeal. If you have not as yet made or pledged a gift, know that as a parish we benefit greatly by the services and support provided through diocesan ministries. Any gift you can make, no matter the amount, is most appreciated. The annual in-pew appeal for the CSA will be held during the Masses next weekend.
Join me in welcoming Mrs. Diann Foster from Pro-Life across America. She will be speaking briefly at the end of Mass and will be available in the vestibule offering sale items to benefit their most important work.
Today Holy Rosary Church is sponsoring their annual Fall Dinner in the Knights of Columbus Hall. Serving of the dinner begins after the 9:30 a.m. Mass. Everyone is welcome to share the delicious dinner and the community and parish fellowship.

For all who are ill, especially those who are awaiting surgery or seriously ill, and for their care-takers,
we pray to the Lord.
If a family member is ill, injured or disabled please call and let us know so that we may put them on our sick list for prayers. We don’t know unless you call, and we cannot put a name on the sick list without your permission. Names will remain in the bulletin for two weeks, unless otherwise notified. The power of prayer is very strong and healing.
Sick, homebound or nursing home? If you hear of or know of someone who falls into these categories please have an immediate family member contact us at Holy Rosary's rectory office, 735-4718, so we can minister to their spiritual needs.
~ WORLD MISSION SUNDAY ~
Thank you for your generous support on World Mission Sunday. Our parish raised $613.00. While only some are called to go to the Missions to serve, all of us are called, by our Baptism, to support the Church’s missionary work by our prayers and financial help.
~ "FORMED" ~
To sign up for formed please visit www.formed.org and use parish code: R8YRMG. If you have any problems or questions, please don’t hesitate to call Deacon Mike at 573-735-4718 between 8:00 AM and 12 noon.
This week’s highlighted program for Formed is "Confessions of a Mega-Church Pastor” (listen). This service is free to our parishioners so please use it as much as you would like.
~ D OF I NEWS ~
All parishioners are invited to join in the 1st Saturday Rosary each month in Holy Rosary Church at 10:00 AM. This was a long time tradition of the D of I recently renewed but not inclusive to just D of I. Please come and join us. The Rosary is the most important prayer we can say. It will be cancelled only due to in-climate weather or a funeral at that time.
~ 2018 CATHOLIC STEWARDSHIP GOAL UPDATE ~
Bishop Gaydos reminds us in his annual CSA appeal video that we share the same human nature, and as baptized members of the Body of Christ, we literally are invited to share as one family in faith. This is the middle week of this year’s CSA campaign. If you’ve already responded to Bishop’s appeal letter, we thank you. If not, please take time this week to make a gift to support the many services noted in the CSA brochure which the diocese provides in support of our parishes and schools. May God bless you for your pledge.
As of October 24th, 16 families of St. Stephen have donated $2,639.00 (32.99%) of the Diocesan Stewardship goal of $8,000.00. Thank you for your help and support; we couldn’t do it without you!
