Appendix to the Okeford Fitzpaine Parish Appraisal Results of the Questionnaire Survey
Introduction
This report gives the details of the results of the questionnaire survey which was circulated to the households in the Autumn of 1985.
It has been produced as a comprehensive record of (virtually!) everything that was recorded on the forms. It accompanies the main Appraisal Report which summarises the results of the survey and draws some conclusions.
The statistics have been itemised into four sections, for the sake of clarity the results from Okeford, Belchawell and Fiddleford have been recorded in three separate sections. The Young Persons Questionnaire is also analysed separately in the fourth section.
My thanks go to those members of the working party who analysed the forms and computed the results. (See Appraisal Report for list of Working Party Members).

COMMUNITY FACILITIES AND RECREATION
5. What additional community facilities should there be?
a. Skill-sharing organisation - where local people of all ages meet up togethe and teach each other - pass on their experience to those who have little experience or are having difficulties finding jobs.
b. It would be good to see the village hall being used more as a community centre, as well as for playgroup and evening society events e.g. as a drop-centre for old to come and meet, chat, interact and also as a meeting place for young people to come e.g. for clubs or discos or drop in for coffee. This would obviously involve quite a lot of organisation but perhaps if the work was carried out on a rota system, it could be a big step towards a more integrated community - improve community spirit.
c. Ask the 12-16 age group what they want. The youth club was a good idea, but petered out. According to some local youngsters "there was never anything interesting or fun to do".
d. I would like to suggest some facilities for young people, but hesitate because of the noise and vandelism that seems to be the inevitable consequence of young persons activities these days.
e. A list of all elderly people who are lonely to be kept by a responsible person and passed on to other elderly persons who wish to share afternoon tea together without joining a club.
f. A children's room in The Royal Oak where they can be left and served with soft drinks a pool table and other entertainments, while the parents enjoy a quiet drink.
g. It would be nice to have a club which was devoted to traditional country crafts. A day centre for the elderly is needed and such a facility could be centred on a new village hall.
