Introductions
Diane welcomed to the PPG group and our newest members of the PPG group. A brief explanation was given on how the meetings are structured and introduced the newest members. Diane asked the group to go around and give a brief description of themselves and welcomed the Guest Speaker David Bradley from Neighbourhood Two.
The New Practice Look
It was explained to the group that the surgery has had a dramatic overhaul over the past few months, this has been due to the GP’s seeing a huge amount of potential in the surgery and the building and wanted to utilise this as best they could. Diane informed the group that the surgery now has an extra seven clinical rooms within the practice and that there is talk of possibly extending upstairs to allow for further in house services for patients.
It was noted that the GP’s within the surgery have part funded the renovation alongside the NHS bid that the practice won. Diane has informed the group that all the clinicians in the practice are striving to make the surgery be as easily accessible as possible for all patients.
Practice Opening Hours
The surgery has been decided to open extra hours this has been the case from the 28th of June 2017. The new surgery hours were explained to the group, and it was noted that this would be 08:00am until 06:30pm Monday- Friday. Conran has been awarded the status of the GPPO hub again which means that all patients who have an out of hours appointment can be seen here within the surgery.
Diane had reiterated to the group that this is not an add-on surgery for our clinicians due to them not doing set days throughout the week.
Teaching Practice
The surgery has been stated as a teaching practice and Diane gave a brief explanation of this to the group. The surgery is to have two doctors working within Conran who will be doing clinics similar to our own GP’S. Each Doctor will have a mentor RE: Dr S Kashif or Dr K M Syed.
The GP’S within the practice are really proud to be able to offer this to our patients due to main demand of the practice being appointments. Due to the surgery doing this it is offering extra 15 appointments for patients to be seen by a doctor a day and is something we are carrying on in the future.
Practice Based Pharmacist
The practice has welcomed a newest member to the team a Pharmacist called Rishveen Sidhu who will be working within Conran and assisting the reception staff with prescription queries. At present she will only be working two and a half days in surgery, but is there to help patients with prescription requests and to ensure that all patients are having their needs met re prescriptions, blood pressure checks etc.
Practice Newsletter
Diane has unveiled the new draft for the practice newsletter to the group and welcomed them all to have a read of it and give their opinions. The surgery intends to have a newsletter which is based predominately on what the patients want to see so it has been encouraged and welcomed that if any member of the group were to have any ideas for further development they would get in touch with the practice and voice this to a member of staff.
Guest Speaker- David Bradley, Neighbourhood 2 Transformation worker- Future Community Services.
David introduced himself to the group and informed the group that he is currently working for the GP federation within northern health GPPO. David’s main role he explained to the group was ensuring that patients who need help or advice get signposted to the correct service.
David will not be working within Conran but will be working with the neighbourhood as a whole to try and ensure that patients get linked to the correct service that met their needs. David gave a brief example of how this works, such as a patient who wants to stop smoking, rather than signpost them to their doctors he could suggest care outside of the practice that would be able to help just the same. He explained to the group that the main aim of this is to get people the correct help they need but to also try and take some of the strain of the NHS and within the practices.
Any other Business
Diane informed the group that according to the NHS choices website our practice has been rated one of the best in the area. This is something the surgery has recognised and is proud of. We will further try and implement this for all of our patients.
An Open day is to be being arranged for our patients to welcome everybody into see the surgery’s new look. Diane has stated the date for this is yet to be arranged but that as soon as it is the PPG group members will be some of the first to receive an invitation.
The lung health check that was offered last year in 2016has been decided to be brought back for patients who missed out on it the first time. The lung screening had tremendous effect with our patients and enabled the clinicians to help diagnose with minor ailments and some not so much that would not have been picked up previously.
Diane has implemented a new DNA policy and gave a brief explanation of how this works to the PPG members. The main complaint of the PPG meetings seemed to be about the amount of DNA’D appointments the surgery has on a day to day basis. Diane has explained that the surgery has taken a final stance on this and has introduced a new policy which is the strictest one to date. The Aim of this is to free up appointments for patients who do need clinical advice that might otherwise not receive this due to the DNA’S.
